pretty nice tank, looks rly clean. Ya i picked up 3 silver dollars and 1 has a redtail, im guessing redtails are the hooks?

and prices are 5$ sm, 10-15$ md, and 20-25+ lrg, this the going prices?

Thanks :D

Red Hooks have the extra long lower fin (anal fin? I forget the proper terms for fins..), its also extra red and has black in it. The red hooks in my video are larger than the commons.

Common silver dollars do get red in their lower fin (I think with males the red goes up further).

They are pretty easy to tell apart.

edit: I got my red hooks from Snookn21 (MFK Vendor) for $12 each...the common dollars I got at the LFS for about $6 each @ 2" size. I saw 1" dollars at a Petco a few weeks ago for about $12 each...something like that.

I love my SD's. I have 3 commons in with my Oscar and they are so cool to watch. They are really quite funny and very active. At feeding time they are just as aggressive as my Oscar and they will get in there and steal food right out from underneath her if she's not careful.

ooh, your dollars work well with oscar? i always stay away from putting most fish in with my oscar. He doesnt like no one.. lol

In my area its hard to get SD anything over like tiny 1 inch, because they get bought so much. All the fish are so tiny, im always raising them in little tanks just to get them big enough to swim with my seng bichir.

Are there any other variations of SD besides common and red hook?

there are the roosevettis (not sure on speeling) aka spotted dilver dollars, there are also black bar silver dollars. i know there are alot more but those are two of the ones that stand out more.

for the sd experts. i dont have any pictures handy but i have the standard common sd as well as a few of the spotted sd. i know what a red hook looks like but i have another species that has the red anal fin and a small hook on it. nothin nearly as long and all as the red hooks. anyone have any ideas on which species this is?

SD's are my favorite fish of all time. I'm looking to get a mylossoma species to add to my school of 5 common SD's. The mylossoma SD is the better alternative for those who want a large fish and are not quite able to properly house a fish as large as a pacu!
