Hey guys,

I'm, sorry if this has been posted before, I just couldn't find it anywhere after searching for an hour or two. The thing is that while I was at my local petland discounts, the manager told me that she is getting arowanas in, I said that I may be interested. Needless to say, I had bought an ammonia test kit and the tube ended up slipping out of my hand. So I went back and saw it, I know that they have had it for a while, I just never really examined it, it looks to have more of a black based body and the orange line around the fins. So I am wondering if it is a black or silver, any definite way to tell?

Juveniles are easy to tell, blacks are black with a white stripe (very colorful) and silvers are silver. if they're bigger, than post some pix and we'll get them ID's for ya.

i dont suggest you get black, because when hey get big they just look like silvers but darker scale, blue tail and look uglier b/c most dont have barbels

thats a highly opinionated statement. i happen to believe blacks are a lot prettier than silvers as adults, but that is just my opinion :) just wanted to point out that you should mention something is your opinion before stating it

"IMO" Black Arows have more color than silvers when they are adults. Both varieties are gorgeous! Just depends on what you like. "I like Black"

Based on your vague description it does sound like a black aro. How big is it and how much was it?

Based on what they call "lukinnii", also known as peacock bass in the real world, being the same size as the one I picked up on Saturday, the aro is somewhere between 5" to 7"

"ILoveHebe" its not much of an argument for me over which one I like more. Its like comparing a doberman to a rottweiller, they look a lot alike yet they both are very different. However, I happen to like them both.

It's not really about the blue scales for me, as I can't really happen to get a firm id on that, because of the lights they use, I'm not to sure. For me it's more about the orange lines on their fins, I have seen this with black aros, but I have never seen a silver with the orange on its fins. I guess I'll go compare tommorrow, once they get the silvers in, I'll be able to tell the difference.

Anyone know where I can go look at pictures of blacks versus silvers,l I should be able to tell then.

Silver aro pics are easy to find. here are some pics of blacks:)
