Single Cichlid For a Barebottom 55G?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
a 16" JD is absurd to be honest. 12" is extremely rare. but it happens. bigger than that is just not plausible. I think a chocolate is a good choice. They get pretty large and are colorful and peaceful. if you saw "a 16" Jack Dempsey" it must have been another fish or hybrid or something but that is just absurd. lol

There are, of course, genetic freaks that get enormous.... 16" is definately not normal by any standards, but I can believe it.

it wasnt another fish so dont tell ME what I saw. i'm really going to try to upload that video to prove you wrong. i know ceeej31 and showed him it in person, so ask him and see what he has to say. why would you doubt me? what reason would i have to lie about something like that? and no, its not genetic freaks that get that big, its jds that have been taken proper care of and given properly size housing their entire life. the fish sold the very same day as i was leaving the store and i was lucky to get a video of it

oh, and yes, it is VERY plausible that a jd gets to 16" when taken proper care of.

You'd see more JDs that size if that was the case. Or, you're basically saying that only that ONE JD was taken care of properly, and everyone else that has one that is not even close did not take proper care of it? I think you may anger a lot of dedicated people by saying that...

i dont really care if i anger a lot of people saying that, just because you dont want to hear the truth. most people dont keep them for their entire lives, this jd was old as hell and had a curving spine and a decent sized nuchal lump. most people move on to other fish after 3 years(most people) and thats why we dont often see it. i'm really done explaining myself here, there is no point to your arguments.

You really don't have much to stand on, so you not talking will actually benefit this thread greatly.

Bye.

As far as the chocolate cichlid goes, theoretically, how fast would a 2-3" juvie grow?

If you can get a JD that isn't crossbreeded to all he** then they can get that size. i was just going over a thread about a 12"er. but anyway. an EBJD would work cause they rarelly make it over the 8" mark. there life span is cut in half just by the simple fact that they are born. they are the crap of the genes. and they are very passive compared to JD's.

are you adding the sevrum? or was that someone else?

No the severum will stay in one of my other tanks... This was going to be a strictly bichir tank (it still may be), but I want to exhaust all possibilities before I make a final decision.
