A severum, chocolate cichlid, green terror, or parrot cichlid could be a good choice.
A Green Terror is something I was thinking about actually...

I think they may get too big and mean though... I have a severum already in another tank... The others I'm not sure...

Thanks a lot for the suggestions. ;)

Fine dont agree. But your fish will start to get cramped as soon as they get around the 6 inch range. 4 bichirs plus whatever you put in there is way too much for a 55 gal. I know cause thats whats happening to me and I'm looking for a 100 gal + as of right now so i can keep my fish happy for the rest of their lives.

I'm sorry if I sound like an ass, I know i'm a bit hard headed, but I do appreciate the concern...

Don't flame me, but 'cramped' is actually a look i'm going for, though I prefer 'overstocked'. Water quality isn't an issue though...

Water quaility isnt that much for a bichir...I know...but for whatever you get in there might be a problem.

No, I mean water quality in general... I may keep the tank overstocked a bit, but the water quality will not diminish is what i'm saying.

from the looks of your avatar, did you have a rtcxtsn in your 55? There's a big difference between them and polys. The polys will be fine in a 55G. Along with a single cichlid that he is looking for, depending on the cichlid. Water quality is directly dependent on his maintenance schedule and filtration on the tank, which he hasn't even mentioned, so don't go saying that water quality is going to be an issue when you have no idea.

stump i am glad that you admitted you are being hard-headed, but listen to reason. do not get the fish for your own selfish desire because you like the way it looks with no importance for what is best for the fish. if you really want a del, get at least a 100g so you can house all your bichirs in there.

hey i just noticed something funny, everyone that has posted in this thread is from the new england area. rhode island, mass, maine, and nh. rock on northeasterners:headbang2
