Single cichlid or pair for 55

I think the dimensions the OP gave are in order of length, height, then width. The standard 55 (I own 2) is 4' long X 1' wide X 21" high. (I am 100% on length and width, but I may be off by an inch or 2 for height)

If it's 2ft width it'd be perfectly fine tho. :D

Hm besides those listed, there's also Aureus, Ellioti, Firemouth, Pink Fireouth, Texas, Green Texas, Rainbow Cichlid, Nanos, Severums, Angelfish, Discus... yeah... heaps of choices.

Still lots more beyond those.
 
I think a standard 12 inch range cichlid would be a tight fit but could work. If you do 40% or more wc every week I don't see a problem with a vejia or oscar ect... It is a little bit of a tight fit but is possoble with good filtration and good wc scediel...
 
Maybe a mid sized cichlid community, my 120 4x2x2 is a cichlid community and it is a nice tank... I would do 1 firemouth, 1 jack dempsey, a few pictus cats, a few silver dollars, and maybe a port cichlid and rainbow cichlid if you can find them, and maybe a seganal birchir... of course this is a heavy stock and will need good filtration and a good wc sceduel...
 
I doubt it is a 4x2 footprint beacause 60 lows anrn't nearly as common as you standard 55 that is 48x13x20 or 48x12x21... If it is great, but probibly not

An Oscar in a 55 would be torture! Not to mention that 12" is their common size, but they can max out at 16" in optimal conditions. I personally would not recommend anything that grows longer than 6-8".
