Slipknot too extreme? Opinions

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'll agree with you on the Kurt Cobain thing, but that has nothing in common with Slipknot. MARKETING!??? Wow. Shirts and posters. That's it. Maybe two songs with radio play (and not until their last cd I believe). You're ripping them and you mention Disturbed and Avenged Sevenfold in your likings...:screwy: I like Disturbed, but the dude leading has no business trying to "sing", though he attempts (and they have the massive talent to remake others' songs). Like I said, to each their own. As for the "go to college, you'll understand" stab.......riiiigght:ROFL:. There are too many rejects with as much knowledge as a 15 year old and no common sense that have college degrees. Good advice to throw into a discussion based on the opinion of individual ears, though.

gwar makes me sad...

As far as the "no one can say slipnot isn't talented" thing, I can.

I'll bend, they have more talent than a lot of these ass clowns out there today. How did they get so big? Marketing. Go to college, you'll understand.

Nirvana was the same way.

1) Kurt Cobain sucked at guitar
2) Kurt Cobain sucked at singing
3) Kurt Cobain sucked at writing music
4) Kurt Cobain killed himself
5) Now he was a visionary

Do you think anyone would know who Nirvana is if he (Kurt)was still alive? Hell no.

I will admit, I am not a fan of heavy metal. My taste ends at disturbed and avenged 7x. This does not mean I don't appreciate good musicians making this type of music. I don't like Children of Bodom, but they are absolutely amazing musicians (well, a bit too much on double base pedal, but that's this music generations answer to a good drummer playing up beat music). Overly distorted power chords does not equal good guitar playing, no does sloppy wailing/thrashing. I hate metallica, but Kirk Hammet is one of the best guitarists (read: Classically Trained).

I thought about it, still feel the same way. Muse has 3 members. Wow, they do an excellent job of creating an awesome sound. With only 54 members to spare!

You need talent to get a record label.. :grinno:

WTF. How many records did they sell BEFORE Kurt died? How many sold-out shows? How many number one songs? I suppose you only think the beatles are famous because John Lennon got shot too?

Opinions are like *******s, everyone has one. Your don't like Nirvana/Kurt Cobain, good for you. Does that mean he sucked? Well, he's dead and he still makes more money per year than you will in a life time and still sells millions of records, so I guess someone likes him. Is there actually a ratings-system to determine just how good music is? Its not like a football game where you can see the team plays badly and loses, in that instance you can say 'they sucked'. Music is all about opinion and personal taste.

P.S Hannah Montana is huge, does that make her and her music great?

Yup Yer right Alice Cooper is awesome.
Grampa here......so old I am!
Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Whoever said none of the other bands listed can run circles around Slipknot...sorry buddy but Slayer can outdo them any day - Lombardo and Bostaph are infinitely better than Joey or whatever his name is...and Hanneman is a very accomplished guitarist...as far as Araya and Kerry King...well....yeah, guess I can't say much there, hehe.

Whatever Slipknot's doing, it's got them rich and famous - so whatever. I don't like em', I think there are hundreds of bands out there with more talent that deserve more recognition, but since they didn't have the brilliant idea of running around beating the piss out of eachother on stage and having some dudes beat on oil barrels...well...too bad so sad.

If they had more talent than they'd be acknowledged...

Yep, because the music industry has nothing to do with knowing the right people, getting your foot in the door, and having a theatrical gimmick on stage to draw a crowd...it's all about the music ;)

Well, I Don't think many people listen to SlipKnoT because they like to watch them live, it's about the music. Watching them live is just a bonus :)

I'd be willing to bet that a good part of them getting on a record label had to do with their on stage performance.

Most heavy metal bands are given record deals based around scouts watching their live performance, rather than demo tapes mailed in...

Getting a record deal these days, especially in a genre as obscure as metal, requires knowing the right people, and I'm sure having a gimmick that will get all those hormone charged teens in an uproar like lighting yourself on fire and beating the piss out of eachother helped out quite a bit, too.

Then again I never said Slipknot suck, I just said I don't like their music - you're just defending them because you're a fan ;)
