Good point Tom,there is an element of risk if the snakes were to drop their tails in the water, however the fact these Boas are extremely arboreal (tree dwellers)and knowing the general behaviour of my Aba aba i figured it was worth the risk. They have been together now for 18 months without any problems so i will continue to keep them this way whilst theres no problems, the first sign of any and the Aba will be moved, theres no danger to the fish from the snakes, ive got all on getting them to feed on their natural diet...very fussy eaters Emeralds!

I did think it rather unlikely myself but theres allways that chance, but like you point out it is largely down to the individual animals, if the boas keep up on their branch and the aba aba is happy with the snakes and see's no attraction in trying to bite them then it makes for an amazing setup. I have several controvertial tank mates but they all co-exist very well and have done for quite some time (gar, fly river and MM for example in my 350G) Although the frt is being sold and im keeping my smaller one in th 5ft.
Keep on doing what your doing, you have a very impressive setup and im still jealous of your boa collection :drool:.
You mentioned the Emeralds beng difficult eaters and having to feed them on their natural diet, do you feed them live feeder gecko and frogs like my friend has to with his vine snakes? Sorry everyone to talk boa's again.
Also, do you have any more pics of your little heaven?:D

Tom,contrast to what you read and popular belief these Emeralds actually consume more rodents than anything else, they are also known to take very small birds in midflight, thats the reason for the huge fangs for penetrating the feathers, they will eat the occasional Amphibian and reptile but they arent as species specific in their dietry requirements as Vine snakes, they just take a long time to actually take the food offered to them sometimes.....frustrating Herps!!!
I too have had many Flyriver turtles(C.Insculpta),most have got on ok with fish, but a couple have not, usually if they have enough food its not a problem, having said that they do have a tendency to bite the ends off the rays tails so i prefer not to keep them in the company of rays these days.

Thanks juice604!!

I have never kept emeralds so i am not particularly knowledgeable on emeralds, but taking a bird out of the sky sounds like an impressive feat. I love vine snakes but like you say they are very specific in their dietry requirements and only really take live feeder geckos, which i couldnt do to be honest, the gecko's are far too cute.
My smaller fly river lives in a 5ft tank because i got the MM and he cant resist anything as exciting as the undulating disc of a stingray. However the larger of the two had been kept with rays since it was very small, under the care of the man i got it from so has never shown any interest in anything other than his occasional treats of kiwi, figs, mango and peas:D
But he is being moved anyway as i am going to trade him for a breeding pair of PB as my little project.

Hi everyone,
this is my mini paradise, its hard to show the tanks like i said because its so narrow, however you will get the idea.In the pictures is a few of the other residents though i havent photographed any of the snakes(Boas)of which there are a large selection,i breed boas too,the humidity suits them perfectly.
Hope you like my little world!

NEW THREAD! I wanna see everything. That truly is heaven or at least the Garden of Eden with all the serpents and a little Eve wandering around in the pic. :)
