if you are a true snakehead lover and can house them properly then go ahead, i was simply generalizing, and i am very upset at how the channa species are getting into waters, they can come in and devestate the fish population.

they breed proficiently and i would just hate to see another lake or river devestated by these fish

and NO i am not an arrogant (spelled like that btw) kid who cant get one, i have no reason to get one, i like multiple species in one tank as a personal preference

This is the type of misinformation that got the snakehead banned. Name one lake or river that has been devastated by a snakehead species in the United States? You cannot, because there are none! The Potomic is not effected at all and Crofton was devestated by the over reaction of the government NOT the snakeheads. People should check the facts first instead of just stating things that they "heard" or someone told them and then repeating it as if it were the truth. That is called propaganda(spl?).
Don't take this as a flame I am just correcting a mistake that you made.

Also cobra snakeheads have been living in florida waters for a number of years now and they have not devasted any native populations.

Illegal, lol, here in Canada we can get anything, in fact our local FS has 5 really nice snakeheads, still only about 8 inches, but they are growing, you can have all 5 for $200, and since our dolar is almost at par with yours, thats a good deal for a larger baby, We also had the pure red babies in a month ago, they sold for more just because of their nice colour.

But generally we can get anything up here, but there is a planned ban on Weather loaches of all things. lol

Nothing compares to Japan fish rare fish keeping, not even Canada. Redlines go for about $7 at 4" and I got a 3" cobra for $5.

Yeah... Japanese monster fish keepers... I salute them.

Though Singaporeans decided to use tomans as feeders... 15/20 for 1 USD. About 1-2" each.

Five 5-6" tomans for 1 USD too. (Haven't seen these for a long time though)

I agree with lots of points made on this thread and as much as we Snakehead keepers would like to think we are all careful considerate fish keepers there is an element of keepers that will look to own a red because of bragging rights and the 'I've got an illegal fish' doesn't do it any favours. I would love to have one myself but until I've got a big enough tank to house it for life I will not have one. It will be impossible to house three for life without some sort of ubertank, thousands of gallons.

We in the UK do understand the legality issues and the reasons for it. We have had problems with your grey squirrel taken over the country and practically wiping out our native red squirrel, also a crayfish of yours has invaded our waters and because of they’re much larger size are taking over our smaller native species. If either of these species is captured it is illegal to return them back to the wild. I would hate for a snakehead to be released into our waters and cause a similar issue. Fortunately the only species realistically capable of surviving our winter is Argus and you need a licence to keep one of them.

I am a huge fan of snakeheads and they are the only fish I have found that compare to Cichlids in intelligence, personality and parental care. I know there is others but SH’s generally fit the same mould. Some smaller SH’s can be kept in a community as long as the community individuals are not to small. Bleheri (in my avitar) is a great fit for this very attractive, small and peaceful.

I always thought it was because this invasice species carried with them a disease that they were immune to my native crayfish species weren't?

Thats probable true, I don't know the details and guessed a little. They are substaincially larger though.

Ash: Yes I still want one and once I get the tank setup I will be on a mission to get one. How big is your fourth.
