hahah,
Being a current owner and previous owner of SN (both giant and redline) in Aus, I know what LFS say “oh yeah I can get them blah blah blah” They can’t they are a lot harder to come across now more so than ever, the attractive 12000 fine and imprisonment is not usually worth it, but being one of those freaks who enjoy having a freak of nature in his living room, I don’t care. Why are you just picking on Snakeheads? Why not gars? Rays? Etc.. going on what is in Aus, most other fish are illegal in Aus. You should really check out what is TOTALLY legal in your country/state, I think you will be surprised.

Snakeheads are not for starters. I think that owning one is a unique opportunity, it’s a opportunity and a life decision that needs to heavily be considered, you must be able to afford the upkeep on this thing, I spend over 100 dollars a week on feeders for this thing, and he’s only 2ft! I would shoot someone if they decided to let it into our streams/rivers because that’s just foolish. But I feel as though I am a responsible enthusiast and this fish does bring me much viewing pleasure.

Don’t hate the fish, hate the incompetent owner.

LOL :D

You are right there! as I say its like guns, the problem with them is the nut behind the stock, the gun will not pull its own trigger the same as snakeheads, its the small amount of people who get these fish that have not got a clue. As I said before the bulk of the owners are responsible, at the end of the day I have seen some idiotic ways people keep goldfish. Hell I have a Koi in my pond that was sold to a lad down my road for his goldfish bowl. When it got to 6" they thought he was a large goldfish! He is now about 15" would have like to seen that in a bowl. Snakeheads are cool.

This is the type of misinformation that got the snakehead banned. Name one lake or river that has been devastated by a snakehead species in the United States? You cannot, because there are none! The Potomic is not effected at all and Crofton was devestated by the over reaction of the government NOT the snakeheads. People should check the facts first instead of just stating things that they "heard" or someone told them and then repeating it as if it were the truth. That is called propaganda(spl?).
Don't take this as a flame I am just correcting a mistake that you made.

Also cobra snakeheads have been living in florida waters for a number of years now and they have not devasted any native populations.

you're right bro. the news has everyone up in arms about the snakeheads in the Potomac. They talk about them competing with bass and other native species. well the bass in the Potomac were introduce a little over a hundred years ago so they aren’t even native! Not to mention the introduced channel cats, flatheads, carp and other introduced species. I read some where that 35% of the Potomac’s fish species were not there 200 years ago. But they have singled out snakeheads because some reporter dubbed them the ‘Franken-fish’. So far snakeheads have had no impact on any of the native species, yet I here over and over that they are devastating or wiping out native species.

uh duuuhhhhhhh

ummmmmmmm, why would you want a snakehead? whats the appeal? theyre mean, not very active, and dont even look that cool, not to mention ILLEGAL, its people like you that ruin it for the rest of us

oh, go join your hippy friends and release it in a year when you decide its not HIP, then well have an invasion in another state too, oh glorious mayhem come rear your ugly head (im going postal)

this topic fires me up, if ya really want to, go ahead and get a snakehead, that is if the "dealer" really can get it, and then youll be sooo cool right? do yourself a favor and get something legal, the best way to avoid the PIGS is to be a good american citizen right? and no, just because you pay taxes doesnt mean that you get a right to everything! what about the rest of us that pay taxes too? the ones that want the invasive species to stop? dont pollute our rivers that were once full of gamefish with fish that are no good at all! imagine that, a river once full of darters, sculpin, pickerel, trout, and other various natives. now all you can catch is a nasty trash fish called SNAKEHEAD.

so, go ahead and get your damn snakehead, but dont get mad when its the only fish in your tank, and its completely anti-social

this is a message to everyone who wants a snakehead because theyre crazy fighters, or theyre super aggresive, or because you want to see a feeder die in seconds, there are tons of fish that offer all this that are legal, and are active too, try a puffer, if you just like the snakehead look try something else, because i guarantee youll regret it sooner or later

call me crazy, but as a tax paying citizen(lol, you pay taxes to benefit the community, not all of it goes to the "bloodsucking" government, do your research on how much the us spends a year to benefit the community, and guess what, youll ge back twice what you pull outta your pocket), i get my own opinion

dude u can stfu .. i have 240 gallon tank there going in and for u to say im going to release them in the wild.. u dont know **** about me .. go to hell u little ***got teenager. oh ya ***face.. hes going in with a dorado and large arrowanna and garpike. i know there aggressive u dumb mother fker. ive been in this hobby alot longer then u ..

also btw i wish someone would drop some snakeheads in the lakes around here. let me tell u why.. once fish are established in the us then u can fish for them anywhere in the us. for example bass musky pike walleye perch etc.... are found all over the us.. the have announced some while back that its way to late to kill off the snakehead species cause they have already spread all throughout the virginias and i even heard michigan.. its just a matter of time before there in every state of the usa.. and what is the harm may i ask.. bowfins are just as big and mean and are everywere... there are always non native species being brought in the great lakes from ships all the time. and do u see all of the native fish dissapearing because of it.. noooooooooooo.. these stupid feds need to give it a rest. they made a statement that is to late to erradicate them so then why are they still illegal??? they will be a introduced species just like all the ones that get brought in from the ships.. no harm.. sell em. if u ask me the more fish in the states the better.. bass musky pike sturgeon catfish walleye etc.. there beasts ur not going to kill em off no matter what introduced species is brought in.

oh for sure ..its not big enough for a full size dorado either but it takes years for them to reach there potential.. by that time i would like to sell and find a home built 500 gallon.. or a 700 gallon.rms aquaculte in cleveland has one on display and that would be the way to go..

redlines grow faster than striata and my striata reached a foot from 2.5 inch within 3 months.

also redlines are reall aggressive.

so basically u gotta take out all other fish or they will be food

trust me a dorado will not be food.. the dorado is on the top of the food chain as far as freshwater predatory fish. and a large arrowanna at the top of the tank should be fine as well..if anything i worry about the dorado killing the sh
