Sneak peak - the 190g discus tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks! Forgot to mention, it's just one 1000gph pump, second to be added.

If I remember correctly, the box is about 16" long, by 5" wide.

So for the background, that comes as like 3 pieces? Are they the exact same partern? Seems like that would be too repetative, but on your tank it seems to look pretty random and not repetative.

I've been looking for a background on a 180 gal. I want something thin bu enough tecture for a turtle to hang onto.

Yeah these are panels, used 3 panels for my tank. When you join them up, you really can't tell they were combined. Aquaterra does an amazing jobs with backgrounds. Pricey, but well worth it.

Couple of questions.

With set up like that, are you depending 100% on biological filtration for waste? It doesn't seem like much waste can get caught with the overflow.

Is there a reason you have it blocked in so debris cant get to it?

Are you referring to the intake strainers? If so, the reason for the intake strainers is:

1. My overflox box has no 'teeth' like a standard overflow box. I need something to stop a really big particle (or dead fish) from clogging my lines.

2. The Beananimal using a main siphon that is partially closed with a valve. This results in a very small opening in the line, which could easily get clogged. See #1 :)

I cant believe I missed this thread! Great look so far!

How much do you think you've spent so far on this DIY?

Yeah, what about mech? Do you have socks below?

Not that sumps aren't already low maintenance, but I bet you could slide a prefilter in the overflow box too, just a nice easily removable piece of foam. Thinner than whatever's in the sump, and thus easier to rinse quickly and put back.

Ah you guys were talking about mechanical! Yes, that's in the sump. One 25 or 50 micron sock will give me all the mechanical I'll ever need!

Get that thing running already Jose! Looks great. Wish you lived a little closer so you could help me w/ my next project....when ever that is.
