The Tong's in Brea, by the movie theatre off of Imperial Hwy. is garbage. They must send the fish that aren't doing well at their other store there or somth'n, I've been in there over the years and every time the fish are half dead and the entire shop is in disarray.

It used to be called Tongs but I think it has changed owners and is now titled "Imperial" something or another. I haven't been then in the last year or so, so they could have changed the name back and I wouldn't know. The other Tongs is much larger and is off the 405 freeway.

Tongs
8976 Warner Ave
Fountain Valley

Yeah the one in FV was the one I'm talking about with the good selection.

I've been out of the area for about 5 years doing my Army thing, so this is all probably completely out dated information on my part about how things are now, haha.

I was in at "Imperial" or whatever it's called recently and their stock was pathetic, dead leopard geckos in a cage with live ones, too.

Blue Reef Tropical Fish
2875 w Lincoln ave. Anaheim Ca
(714) 821-8000

I been going there for months and out of the 4 fish stores i was going to i choose this one anytime everything there is still under going a change (down sized)
but prices are good fish are healty... They offer fresh water fish and plants, saltwater , reef and great deals on full setup aquariams.. and Tony the owners gives out great deals....

So great to see all these names here. I work as a manufacturer rep in the industry and call on these people on a regular business. What's more is that most of these people are very good people....I'm pretty blessed to have such nice customers.

The two the prevalently come to mind are Aquatic Warehouse in San Diego and Ocean Blue in Anaheim. Pat and Sam of Aquatic Warehouse consistently get in very cool oddballs. Often you have to go through the aquariums with a close eye to spot some of the neat stuff. Sam told me that they even had Red Congo Tetras recently.

Brian of Ocean Blue is a great guy and is truly not afraid to get in oddball freshwater stuff that others fear they will not sell....always interesting stuff in stock.

Others on the list:
405 Tropical Fish
D&D Fish & Pets
Hacienda Aquatics-Nice price on young fish that I got a quick look at that I think might be Polleni, though I must admit I'm not always great on my Madagascar cichlids.
Neptune's Reef
Exotic Tropical Fish Of The World-Recently had in a bunch of Madagascar cichlids including the near extinct ones
Fish Fantasy-About the most well cared for fish in terms or feeding and color that you will see
Tong's Tropical Fish-Neither the Whittier or Orange County location will disappoint you
The Whittier location consistently has terrific Nicaraguense
7 Seas- The SAN PEDRO store consistently has cool cichlids and catfish

I cover Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, Orange and part of LA counties for my company, so I have a fairly good grasp on what's out there.

A few of my favorites...

1. Natures Aquarium : (Always has a GREAT plant selection and the owner is actually very knowledgeable and will order what ever you are looking for. He does get a great selection of fish/FW shrimps in and the quality is always on par. This is the only spot I I can count on to always have ADA products and a great selection of CRS/RCS etc. I tend to stop by on my way home from work daily just to talk fish and wait for traffic to die down. heh...)

2836 Santa Monica Blvd
Santa Monica, CA 90404
(310) 829-6180

2. The Giant Fish: (If you let them know what you are looking for they will order it. Plus it's very conveniently located for me. :) )

15619 Ventura Blvd
Encino CA 91436
(818) 788-4401

3. Aquarium City (Always a great selection to choose from at this place...)

21723 Sherman Way
Canoga Park CA 91303

4. Allan's Aquarium & Pet Center (Another great spot with a huge inventory to choose from.)

Finally....a fish store close by. Well sort of anyway. I'm in burbank and I've been looking for a good store. I will have to check these out!!

I'd highly reccomend:

PTF
2982 E Colorado Blvd, #108, Pasadena, CA 91107
(626) 449-4987

See:

for reviews of PTF

This store is excellent. I have seen everything there from Pacus and Lionfish to Tangs and (yes) Puffers (sw AND fw)
They have an excellent source of fw and sw fish and have never sold me an unhealthy fish. Check it out!

Groovi,

The Wyland Art Gallery in Laguna Beach is selling a fully loaded saltwater 240 G for $700 comes with everything you should give them a call.

Definitely a great spot! Good selection, except for snails. They don't feed their snails, so most die quickly.

Also, my very favorite:

Aquarium Connection
http://theaquariumconnection.com/
3200 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd
Thousand Oaks, CA 91362

Keith, Andrew and the rest of the guys there are incredibly knowledgeable, will do special orders of fish and plants, and always have great prices. It's the kind of LFS that you spend years looking for. Staff has professional aquaria experience, as you can read on the website. Very friendly. Awesome shark tank, too. Aside from Petsmart for my OmegaOne pellets, Aquarium Connection is basically the only LFS I visit anymore. If they don't have it in the store, they'll order it for you. :headbang2
