So confused. Why is it so wrong to visit a fish warehouse?

First, you're not their customer. Second, how would you react when some stranger just came and ask if he can "tour" your place? Consider you were lucky that they let you tour their place! ;)
There! That's the weird attitude I was getting. So why do you feel this way? Has someone ever waltzed into your fish room with a bottle of antifreeze and started dancing around in circles as it splattered into your tanks?

The answer is several fold.

First and foremost, we all understand wanting to see masses of fish. What a lot of you guys don't get are the hundreds of people against keeping fish, and don't have to deal with the stuff they pull to either kill off or 'set free' captive animals. Letting in a random person off the street isn't smart at all.

Secondly, a lot of them to want to keep their business private. They deal with stores on a professional level. Letting people see the price difference is stabbing the store owners in the back, and very rude on a professional level.

Coming in off the street, they have no clue who you are. All it would take is a bottle of liquid dish soap in you pocket to wipe them (and the staff who works for them) out.

They weren't being rude, they were being safe.
Wow. I had no idea about fish freedom fighters! Does that actually ever happen?

As far as pricing, it would be very silly for a random person to question the pricing of fish. Even if I worked for one store and saw that the guy across town was paying less than me for the same fish, how is that my business? The seller names the price. That's always the game. I'd have to be a whiny snob to get angry about something like that.

Again, do these attacks actually happen?

Because checking other peoples' prices is part of owning a business. It's part of a S.W.O.T. analysis

im not sure why everyone seems to think the pricing is such a big deal? if they have one of those fish that doesnt sell for months. thats months of food and water changes/dechlor used that make it far less a profit margin than it sounds.

^^ I agree ^^ This is not a public facility. It's a distribution center. You can't be critical of them for not wanting you to walk around their facility. It's simple: Dealing with the public is not part of their business model.

I think I understand now. Clearly I don't agree with this philosophy, but I now have a clue why I should be expected to. Thanks.

Exactly - running a retail (open to the public) establishment requires meeting requirements different than wholesale (not open to the public) facilities: insurance, accessible bathrooms, etc, etc. What happens if someone (not covered by insurance) slips and falls? Gets shocked? Cuts himself? Kiss the business good bye.

And, oh by the way, the people at the wholesaler are working. They don't want to have to work around people just walking around.

Some wholesalers have a public front end that is set up for retail.

It's no secret that wholesale price lists are a lot lower than retail for livestock, so all of the speculation that it's a conspiracy to hide wholesale pricing is bunk. Same with illegal animals. Think Fish and Wildlife doesn't inspect wholesalers?

A better plan is to call the wholesaler and ask if you can drop by at a time that is convenient to them.

How did you not understand there attitude? Its not a store from what Im getting, why would they let you in? Look at in from their shoes, to them what benefit is it to them for letting you in there? Nothin'. And you just showed up haha I think you actually got treated pretty well
