So how strict are you at keeping a biotope?

At one point I always wanted to keep my stock somewhat area specific. But I also only wanted one tank. Now I have a school of clown loaches with SA/CA fish and a NTT dat. And ya know, I've yet to have anyone walk into my livingroom and point out that I have fish mixed together from different regions lol. If we like the way the tank looks and the fish all work well together, then why restrict ourselves?

IMO, this forum has a higher ratio of members who would fit the Arian brotherhood/racial stigmas of Who's "in the neighborhood" mindset ;-)
So even if people are willing to mix it up at home, not gonna find so many who feel comfortable with that in public.

I do whatever the hell I want. ;) Generally that means keeping stricter biotopes than almost anyone else on the forum... but if I want to mix, I will, AND YOU WILL LOVE IT.
Actually, that would require me posting what is even going on in my fish room these days.

Honestly ive never worried about true biotopes or one region tanks. There are some beautiful/amazing ones on here dont get me wrong, but one place doesnt have all the monsters i like.. i exibit atleast 20 different racist setups in my home lol....closest i get to a one region tank is keeping fish solo. To each their own tho i guess. Id say go for it lol...

Most of my favorite fish are from the Amazon, so I lean towards that in so far as how I want the tank arranged. Otherwise, I'm okay with adding fish from other areas.

As a staff member that was my reaction to seeing the title of this thread. lol

I tend to mix fish that are compatible and work together. I'm not overly particular for most purposes when it comes to picking stock.

I do however occasionally get a biotype hair up my backside. I've been especially particular about that with my North American natives. I'd also really like to do a small, 20ish gallon blackwater South American biotope.

bahaha thats great

i dont mind mixing, but i do like that at one point we know the congo and amazon rivers were connected. So i have a sort of ancient amazon thing going on right now, with a gold dust bichir, ornate bichir, and red hi fin wolf. I probably wouldnt put something from say asia with mine though, unless snakeheads become legal :) haha
