you need to "cycle" the tank...please do not add any fish till this is done...

Get you a master test kit, you'll need that to properly Keep fish,
A small jug of ammonia, 100% pure, water clear, no bubbles or scent...

And do a fishless cycling...

Got the master test kit I have never heard of fishless cycling ill try it out on this tank always learn something new on these forums. Wheres a good description of what your talking about ? Webpage etc etc

I have known about cycling since my first tank in 6th grade (My dad showed me) But I have always done it with fish typically giant danio's or damsels in saltwater I havent heard of fishless cycling though . Thanks for the info.

just buy "stress zyme". It's live bacteria in a bottle. If you use this you don't have to wait till your tank is cycled. you can add fish right away!

You also don't need to buy a big bottle. the smallest bottle will do just fine as you'll only need to use it when starting up a brand new tank.

As impatient as I am I've never had to wait and cycle my tank ever since i started using Stress Zyme. It's great stuff!

Nice! And it kept it cycled ??? Sounds too good to be true !

The only product of that kind that I have used with any success is SeaChem's "STABILITY", still, I'd do the fishless cycling...

First off, you need to raise the temp to the mid 80's

Add five (5) drops of pure ammonia, per ten (10) gallons of water.
Do this daily, until the NitrItes are measurable...

Once you get a NitrIte reading, you decrease the daily ammonia drops to three (3) drops per ten (10) gallons of water.
Continue this daily until you get a
Zero (0) Ammonia and a Zero (0) NitrIte reading.

At this time measure for NitrAte, you should have a 20-40ppm reading.

Now, do a 25-30% water change, discontinue the Ammonia drops, adjust the temperature and Add fish...

No dead sacrificial animals, and you are ready for a fairly healthy amount of fish...
;)
