I'm curious if you can't wait weeks for your tank to cycle, why don't you just use media from an already established tank to cycle your tank? You don't have to buy stuff in a bottle and it's pretty easy to just go to another tank in your home and pull out media.

I could do that...but it's just easier overall to use the bacteria in a bottle. You don't have to mess w/ anything. Also, you just use it once to start up a tank so it lasts you quite a long time.

last time i tried stress zyme and just put in a bunch of fish .
i had to do daily water changes for six weeks
i wouldn't trust bacteria in a bottle

you do realize that even if they do contain beneficial nitrifying bacteria that they would be dead if they were not refrigerated the whole time in the bottle right?

edit- if you do look around and do some research you will find that no matter what benefital bacteria in a bottle you buy it at the best it may speed up your cycle.

^^^ Please read up on Stress Zyme and similar products first.

If you don't want to use it then don't. If you're not a fan of it then please keep it to yourself. I'm just giving advice for the people who are impatient as I am and don't want to mess w/ their filter, medias, etc.

its obvious no can argue with you .
so please for the sake of your fish , fishless cycle.

any product has only been proven to help make the cycle quicker. Never has it been said to cycle a tank automatically.

i have used products like this before, but they don't cycle a tank and they are no excuse not to fishless cycle unless you have no other choice.

wow...... please take a :chillpill: pill. You are obviously offended by my advice because it was better than yours. I would know since I use it myself which you obviously haven't. Otherwise, you'd be using it yourself as well. You can call it BS or whatever you want but you don't have much to say since you've never used the product or a similar product before. I'd recommend you read up on it first before accusing me of giving bad advice.
Of course I have tried Stress Zyme I been in the hobby 35 years...however if you are saying you just pour in a little bacteria in a bottle and your cycled, you are nutz...this only proves you have no idea of what you are even talking about....let alone giving advice to the same...lucky for the OP that he isn't taking lousey advice from you...he would be having nothing but problems, until we got him sorted out...

I have used STABILITY from SeaChem when setting up a quick hospital tank, But not my new MAIN display tank...there is no substitution for a properly Cycled tank...and it doesn't come from a bottle...

And then the what really sealed the deal on your obvious inexperience, was the bit about "just get the small bottle"
"you don't need much"...how rediculous is that statment, not knowing how big of tank this person is even trying to cycle...:screwy:

Maybe you need to unplug and learn a bit, pay attention to what happens when you make silly mistakes from the start, when setting up aquaria...

what size is the tank you are trying to cycle? what/who are the planned inhabitants? Have you moved the bio cartridge to this tank yet?

There's no point in arguing when what you said was false. Even if it were remotely true.......that would mean that every bottle of stress zyme or similar product at every LFS I've been to are bad and contain "dead" nitrifying bacteria since they are just standing on the shelves instead of being refrigerated....Of course you would have to follow the basic rules such as refraining from overfeeding when you first add fish etc. for this product to work effectively.

You obviously dislike the use of live nitrying bacteria for whatever reason but that doesn't mean that it doesn't work. It's "always" worked for me w/ my fresh and saltwater tanks at least and i'm no "PRO".

I may have imagined him to have a tank less that 100 gallons. if that were the case he would need the "small" bottle of stress zyme. Of course you would have to read the instructions on the label for the appropriate amount to use. If that was such "lousey" advice how come it's always worked for me and how come i never lost a fish due to deficient water params?

I wouldn't be telling the OP to use Stress Zyme if it had never worked out for me and if i lost fish from it. The only downfall of it is that it costs money. But for some people money isn't an issue when it comes to their fishes. I have also set up many tanks as well both fresh and salt.
