Women are simple when you finally become a man. Get your ducks in a row, take care of your obligations, understand **** happens and be able to overcome it WITHOUT complaining, be kind to others, and stomp the living **** out of people that would hurt your sanctuary.

Keep it to casual conversation that's not overly controversial (religion, politics, etc.) for now. If she looks like she had a bad day, talk to her about it to cheer her up. She might not be open to you at first, but she may eventually come to value you as a close friend. You might not get a relationship out of the deal right away, but at least you should end up with a good friend that she can trust and maybe it'll become more serious down the road. Just remember to take it slow and know when to cut your losses. It's worth a try, and what have you got to lose?
This is all coming from the guy who has been single since birth yet has been able to guide many a friend through getting relationships, getting out of relationships on a relatively good note, and the like. If only I could make my ideas and advice work for myself...

Hey, just because I don't have any luck doesn't mean that I can't try to help him out. Of course then, when I could have been in relationships, I decided against them for good reasons such as, oh, she has a boyfriend yet still wants me, or I found out that she's crazy (or both).
Thank you to everyone. I think all your input has given me some needed perspective. Every now and then you run across a woman that makes even us old guys loose perspective. It is not my first rodeo and like others have said there are lots more out there. I will set back and see what happens.
