I joined this forum not because I am a monster FISH keeper but I'll soon be a monster TANK keeper.

Isn't it more impressive to have a huge amount of fish in a huge tank rather then just a couple of large ones?

Just trying to see your point of view, thats all :)

Its my ability to care for the fish that drives me, no fish is out of question.

I like their size and strength. I also like watching their behavior, I like the colors and how smart they can be etc. I like watching them grow etc

because they are big

That too :)

I'm with you man. Its the giant tanks that I think are cool. While its still neat, just winding up with a few giant fish in a big tank doesn't appeal to me. I would use that space for lots of different schooling fish, which is what I have done with mine.

Do a huge amount of huge ass fish in a huge tank.

Done..problem solved lol

My wife is always asking me why I don't have a school of "colorful" fish, rather than five large Dats in my 350. IMO, both are nice, but I prefer fewer larger fish. I would have to make the following points which are relevant to me:

1. With a fish, the presence, persona and "ability to relate" (whatever that means with a fish) becomes more tangible (for me) as the fish becomes larger. When the Dats were small, they were "interesting", but now that they're big, they seem more like puppies. In fact, I think of my 350 more like a kennel than an aquarium. So, presumably, we are talking about the enhanced ability of a human to relate at a quasi-personal level to another life form...Size matters.

2. I find that there is an enhanced sense of pride in viewing my tank now that the fish are larger. I suppose this has something to do with the feeling that I have met a technical challenge and succeeded to the extent that the fish have thrived and grown. After all, mainitaining water chemistry, diet, etc., to support a group of aquatic life forms is more intellectually challenging than cleaning a litter box. A few weeks ago, my sister-in-law was over and was marvelling at the size of my largest ST. I have to admit that my feeling was one of pride.

Anyway, that's sort of where my self-reflection takes me on this issue.

Small fish, Medium fish, and Big fish, then.....MONSTER fish! All are the same depends on what you like to keep I prefer bigger fish because it just catches my eye and they seem to come with lots of personality that will get me to watch them swim for hours!
