Soaking filter socks

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I give mine a good sink rinse blast out and then drop them into the washer with some bleach. I run a second time without bleach and then hang dry

I feel like you are over thinking it.

I soak them in bleach for a few days, run the washer on hot hot to clear out any soap residue from previous wash loads, throw filter socks in washer on hot hot.

Both bleach and hydrogen peroxide are oxidizers, the peroxide is a little weaker depending on the bleach concentration.
For some sox, I just squeeze them out in a little water change water.
For some I soak in bleach, depends on how crudded up they get.
Some I just hose them down outside in the summer, but the heavy pressure may shorten lifespan.

I don't soak my filter socks at all. I just hose em off in the driveway. The washing machine doesn't get mine clean anymore, I think they just get more fouled up now that the fish are bigger.
