So is there a way that you guys can legally own a garabaldi? I've only seen youtube videos of fish in the wild and in aquariums.

garbaldi purchased from a dealer that obtained it out of state are completely legal. the only reason they are restricted in cali is that they are the state fish. if the fish came from out of state there are zero regs governing its possession or sale.

at least that is my take on it...

You need a permit to keep Garibaldi in the state of CA. no matter what the source.

grman, just an fyi, you wont find a male sheephead that small. They all start out as female (pink), then later, the lead fish turns into a male - it's a harem society. The males tend to be big in general, but who knows, you might get lucky. It also isn't uncommon to see sheephead in a transitional phase, where they still have the shape of the female but you can see their colors starting to change.

It's probably worth looking into the legalities of keeping marine specimens just in case - but either way, keep this tank on the down low.

Btw, keep this tank on the hush hush ;)

yea, i knew that about the sheepheads. somewhere i heard that you can induce a sheepshead to change sex but i forgot what was mentioned. ive caught plently of little pink girls and a few trannys (kinda a weird grey color). great looking fish either way. im kinda afriad theyd have a bad attitude tho :grinno:

ive seen tons for sale at fish stores around the nation (mainly back east) and even a few "hawaiian" ones locally.

Males can be territorial. I've had a male sheephead go all up in my grill before
