What's the reason for Socal being such a mecca for fish enthusiasts? About 3 out of 4 posts that come from the 'Classified' section on here are from people living in Socal. There's always fish and equipment coming out of there on MFK. I'm a bit jealous at the amount of fish related things going on there, what's the deal? There's plenty of other large coastal communities with large cities and fishermen, but no activity nearing Socal's on here, what am I missing?

I'm from "SoCal"... there are a lot of hobbyists in California because people make a lot of money in California... although the cost of living looks to even it out, there is still a lot of money there.

And, oddly enough, I have found that the (freshwater) fish stores in southern california usually suck!

Idk, but I agree. Those guys have some monster tanks for damn cheap compared to around here. I'll be lucky to ever find an aquarium over 180 for less than $600

I'm in NJ, myself, 20 minutes from Manhattan and a hour from Philly. There's big money all thru here too, but it doesn't really play out that way here into the hobby. I'd think between NY/NJ/CT and Philly all being close together and on the water, the hobby would be just as prevalent as Socal, but it's not even close. I don't think all 4 states together equal Socal's fish hobbyist community.

Fish stores in northern california usually suck! Besides the ones in the bay area :D

I agree! We need more in the Philadelphia area! I am 20 minutes from Philly, 2 hours from NYC, an hour from Atlantic City, and 2 hours from Baltimore. I can't even find stuff for sale on Craigslist. ONCE I found a 180 gallon for $200 on CL in DE. Thank god I jumped on it. Haven't even seen a tank above 125 for under 300 in months.

I am in Camden nj 5 minutes from philly 2hours from ny and most of the petstores around here suck. Hell i live 5 minutes from the state aquarium and i have the most tanks out of anyone in my part of town and i only have 6 tanks.
