Softshell Turtle ID please..

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thats not a spiny or any US species. Its not the Indian smallheaded, nor is it any flapshell. Might be a Nile. Niles get massive though. I don't even know where you would get one.

Get yourself a spiny. They can look exactly like that, only with a longer snorkel and slightly rounder shell, and a heck of a lot smaller, cheaper, and easier.

Well he's a turtle from Japan..could be a native from there..
<whines> I like this one though!!

What's a snorkel? the long neck?

he is a softshell right?

Yes its a softshell. By snorkel I mean the long nose. FRT's and matas have them too, so you know what I mean.

I'm not aware of any Japanese softshells, but there might be one. Do you mean its a NATIVE species or just owned by a Japanese guy?

Btw, nice avatar. Is that the mud you caught? How is he/she doing now? More pics of it and the setup?

Well there are no Japanese softshells. Its either a Nile or some sort of Indian type. I know there is an indian narrow-headed and flapshell softie, but I wouldnt doubt another, more average softshell around there.

Either way, dude, get a spiny. Its the only type practical as a pet. Look up the subspecies, some are more colorful than others, and some are larger.

Well post pics of yours so I can criticize it! :P hahaha

I think it might be Rafetus euphraticus. Mesopotamian softshell.

might be.
