Solid black blood parrot

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i agree it will fade, most juvies are a darkish green colour although my BP gets black stripes around October time i figure it's breeding season

it should fade but it would be sick as all hell if it stayed black

Most likely it will turn orange. I have BP that looked almost exactly like yours when he was young. He had a great body shape and was soooo cool looking! As he grew older he has is getting more and more orange. Currently he still has black splotches and he is still very cool looking.

A couple of years ago I had a very young female BP that would change color and get black stripes/patches/spots just before she laid eggs. As she grew older her color remained the same fabulous (undyed) orange color regardless of her breeding cycle.

Its still young as time goes it will fade. I have a ton like this.
That's what I was thinking too it's undergoing fading process.

just an update.
The fish in the original photo is now solid orange.

It only took a few months and it started loosing the black and turning orange.

When it turned orange I found another that was almost the same, but not as dark black. It has now been in my tank for quite sometime. It started losing the black, but stopped halfway thru and has remained black and orange for a long time(at least a year) and still is that color. To me its like an orange and black tiger color. It looks quiet diffrent than normal bp.
I need to get some pics of it.
