I bought a blood parrot about 2 months ago. The reason I bought it was because I had not seen one like it before. It was really dark with slight vertical stripes. Now the stripes have went away and it is solid black.

Any ideas of what made the fish solid black. I was thinking maybe it was a convict bp mix, but its really really dark and now has no stripes.

or will it change color later or something?

"Solid black parrots" are results of parrots crossed with convict cichlids..........:naughty:

wrong solid black parrots ( blood parrots ) are a result in.. well we dont know but not convicts

Yeah I just saw the second picture........Only way I beleive it turned out black:

Blood Parrot crossed with either----->
------->Black-Barred Midas/RD
------->Not the shape of the Convict, but t\sure has the color of the normal version
------->(xcrazy)Great-Grandparents, Grandparents, then parents were subjects to color injection experiments

parrots will turn a black color if the water is not correct. so if your water starts to go bad they will turn a black color. or its either a dyed fish. either way since red devil is most of the time the dominate trait in these it will turn a orange color.

i have a bright mango colored BP (not orange more gold) with black spots all over just wondering if it will lose these spots after a while if the black really fades

Wow, that is one nice looking parrot. I hope it's not dyed but keep us updated for sure with how he turns out. He will probably fade but it would be cool if he stayed like that.
