Some nice Florida drum!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
We have them around here. They're mainly bow targets though.

I did not know that! Still collecting all sorts of cool natives? Got that dove instructor certification yet?!

My bad kid. I quoted you and was asking divemaster99. How long were you fishing in Minnesota? I love walleye. Hard to catch though. I usually get a dozen Northern for every walleye.

We got there about 5pm on Friday and left 10am Sunday.

Unbelievable pics Josh, those are right off your property? If you have salmon in that lake, there must be a river they run into or are they purely stocked? Or are they splake? I hate the feeling of steelhead season ending. It is that day which I start counting down to the start of next season lol, summer fishing is just a filler. I love eating walleye, hate catching them, one run and they come right into without a fight. I'd take a northern any day fight wise. If you don't like to fillet that Y bone out, grab a case of mason jars, cut the northern into sections, pickle them... unreal. Or get a smoker, I don't know how I ever lived without one.

158 days is nuts man, any day now, any flipping minute really...

Yes Dave that's the back balcony in the early morning. We're a higher elevation so takes a few hours for the fog and clouds to burn off. Some days, they don't and we stay in the clouds.

The lake is fed from underground and surface streams from rain and snow melt. Stays cold year around. We drink the water so it's nice for water changes, no chemicals needed. We have cutthroat trout, rainbows and kokanee salmon which are land locked sockeye. There's also largemouth and smallies, yellow perch, bulkheads, sunfish and Northern pike minnows aka squawfish (totally different from esox pike).

DNR stocks rainbows and kokanee every few years, but there's breeding populations.

I have heard about pickling fish but never have tried, that's a goal this year. I don't have a smoker but badly need one. Is yours a wood smoker?

She held for 175 ish days last litter. I gave her a 3-4 month break this time. She always holds very long but usually has very large pups and big litters 4-8 pups. Not sure why but she takes her sweet time :)

Divemaster you're in PA if I remember correctly right? You have FW drum up there?

Monstahs up here. I have no doubt in my mind that there are individuals in Lake Erie that could shatter the current world record. I've seen fish over 40" while diving and they looked to be at least 30, 40, and some even over 50 pounds. There's probably a big 'ol 70 pounder somewhere in that lake. They're one of my main targets during the summer up there and this year I'm hoping to get close to the state record (19 pounds, only because next to no one targets them) while my PB sits at 14 pounds now after a couple years of seriously targeting them. If you're ever fishing the area, hit me up and I'll give you some tips, forget the wet socks of walleye, drum are where the real fight is at!

Cool I had no clue! Do you catch them at night? They sure love shrimp down south, is that your bait? Looks like the variety in Erie is the sheepshead. They have some crazy teeth, I would not thumb them like the black and red drum!

Electric wood smoker, better temp regulation especially during the cold months, plus don't have to replace propane. Also gets lower temp than propane tends to. Absolutely amazing for fish man, once I tried it I will never want to make fish any other way.

That's cool theyre breeding in a lake, quite neat. Do the cutthroats, rainbows, and salmon get pretty big? They pretty silvery or darker? What is the colour of the meat on the rainbows? The salmon? How is the fight? For me there is nothing like fighting a lake run rainbow in the river, theyre so strong its unbelievable. Anytime I fished for rainbow in lakes (which always tend to have white meat over pink meat, that's why I ask) or even lake trout the fight is nowhere like the ones in the river that are shooting up to spawn. Everyone of those suckers is muscular too, small ones and big ones, but you tend to catch either a 1 lber or 5+ lbs, don't catch too many in between. I bet the bass get a health size in there too eh?

All that being said, you know what I would do to be pulled around in a canoe by one of the monsters in your lake right about now? Completely different game, and half of the reason I get up and get to the spot for sunrise is the shear peace and beauty. Guess those e-cig sales are paying off for you huh?
