yea, definitely an Atlantic species....stocked, considered invasive by some, protected under the Bush admin. several years ago.

That's like Brown Trout being listed as endangered in the U.S. even though they are only native to Europe. Why would you protect a species that's not native unless it's like the last stronghold of it's kind and the only place on Earth they still bred?

It's always perplexed me. Where Lake Trout are native in the Great Lakes, people worship introduced Pacific Salmon. In PA trout streams where the Brook Trout once reigned king, Brown Trout are the most popular species. Even in the Allegheny River stuffed full of native Flatheads and Muskies, anglers seek stocked Wipers and Saugeye. Natives will always be my favorite to fish for and I'll never understand why others don't value their local species more.

Is there a difference between Walleye and Zander or are they the same species and the Europeans just "call" them Zander while in the U.S and Canada we call them Walleye?

Why thank you, Sir :)

So basically the equivalent of our Northern Pike and Europe's Amur Pike, huh??

No worries! Actually, northern pike inhabit Europe, too; Amur pike live much farther east in Russia/China.

The Walleye/Zander Situation would be much more comparable to European redfin perch (Perca Fluviliatis) and American Yellowfin perch (Perca Flavescens)
:)

oh really? I didn't know Northern Pike were native to Europe, I thought it was all Amurs, even though Amuria is only a section of Russia....I figured it was like a generalized name like Paraguayan Earth-eaters even though they were 1st discovered in ARGENTINA LOL or the "COLOMBIAN Redtail Boa".....even though it ranges to Northern Mexico and isn't even a TRUE Redtail.

I know North Dakota is home to the only breeding populations of European Zander. Zander numbers has been increased in recent years.

For what type of fish? I'm going to build some big umbrellas this year for White Bass trolling in Erie that are 2-4' long with 4 arms coming out of it every 6-12". Also going to try to put hooks on every lure to get multiple hookups at once.
