Some of my cichlids...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm a little blown about the HLLE thing. There is not definite known cause, and no definite known cure. Dang it. Ah well... I love ol' Bubba anyway. I will just do my best to keep his environment clean... as I do anyway, and hope for the best.

I appreciate everyone's comments and advice!

I really appreciate the compliment... thanks! I do think aclockworkorange has very nice argentae... they are definitely brighter than mine... I certainly applaud his efforts on such great looking fish. That's my take on it, at any rate.

I think I should pick up the maintenance of my FX5. As I sit here and think about it, I do monthly maintenance on it... but laziness at times on my part does allow that to fluctuate between 4 to 6 weeks at time... so not completely a month faithfully. That could be where my flaw is here. I will be more strict on the maintenance of that filter, and see if the results improve. Glad I posted here... lets me know I certainly have to do a little more work. I want to make sure my guys are as healthy as possible!

Thanks bro. I also run an FX5 on my 125. I honestly clean it maybe once every 3-4 months. The more important thing is high quality food and lots of water changes IMO.

I'm sure they're pellets, but I have gotten my Oscar from a petco, where he was brought in by someone, who couldn't care for him anymore, was never fed pellets, since I tried to do.That is why I try to do a variety of food, that has minerals, vitamins, protein, ect

Try stuffing small pellets in something like frozen krill. I did that for my fire eel.

Dang it... sorry, mods... I thought I was in the media lounge when I was doing this, but clearly I was not. My bad.

Don't be sorry at all Rich! The staff is only here to help. You ever need help with a thread in the cichlid sections or setup/filtration, feel free to drop me a PM. Great pics BTW! ;)

+1.

You don't need to clean canister filters all the often. And you should never clean the bio-media. HLLE is a huge problem with oscars but yours doesn't look that bad. It may have just been the picture. Why don't you post more pics of your O and we can confirm if it has HLLE or not. Also what are your water params?
