Thanks, I think I had a discussion with you before on the PI board about the growth rate and traits of a C. Apurensis, if I'm not mistaken. Cool, I didn't know that you imported some Guinea Endli's to the PI. As small as the Bichir community is over here I should have heard about that. I like your collection as well.

One of my uncles has a rest house that's a few hectares over here with some big ponds. Once I pick out the specimens that I'm keeping, I'm going to dump them in the different ponds at the farm and hope that nature takes it's course. The rest I'll give some of the serious Bichir hobbyists here a chance to own.

That was the reason why I walk away from PALHS as they thought it was a BS when I imported them before. I tried to help the bichir community over there but they just started hating me because I ship them to Iloilo. I was gonna start a breeding farm there as well in Antique as my Grandpa from my Mom's side own some rice paddies and that was the ideal plan, just turn them into large ponds. I aslo got rid of that apure catfish as it just out competing my bichirs for food.

Well goodluck with the breeding program and be the first Filipino to spread rare bichirs around the Philippines. Especially breeding the PBB, sp. koliba and teugelsi. As far as I know no one yet breed tuegelsi (Maybe Japan?) Who knows maybe, 5-10 years from now, you'll get some platinums out of your breeding stocks.

BTW what regional variant are the PBB?

They're from Lake Chad, I looking to get some from Lake Turkana in the future. Well the thing about the PI is that there are alot of haters that let jealousy override their other emotions, which in turn keeps them from understanding what you're trying to do for them. I love my country but it is dominated by a crab mentality.

I'm not really into the platinum, or other unnatural mutations of fish that I see around (short bodies, etc.). However, it is what it is, and if one is churned out I would definitely be open to selling it for the prices people are buying it for, haha. The only color mutation that I'd be really interested in is melanistic.

I haven't heard of a large scale breeding program for Teugelsi either. I haven't heard of a large scale breeding program for Sp. Koliba either though. The Ansorgii's that are being produced in mass now I'm not too sure about. I'd rather pay more for a WC specimen so that my mind will be at ease, if you know what I'm saying. How did your breeding project turn out, were the lap's you sent over here "Guinea" or "Tikinso Guinea"?

Not sure yet, when will it happen or it will ever happen. Maybe around 2014 when I'm done with school. I wanna be there and observe everything first hand rather than let somebody watch them for me. I didn't brought in any Guinea lap, just regular Nigerian laps. Well Guinea or Tikinso Guinea, there is not really much different on them just the location. I just prefer both as Polypterus bichir lapradei "Guinea".

As for the Turkana, it a bit hard as I'm trying to get a connection from East Africa, still couldn't find any. I heard form my source that is kinda dangerous over there. So far I just got some connection in West Africa in Nigeria, Guinea and Congo. Right now working on getting some connection with Mali. Trying to get some Polypterus bichir lapredei "Sankarani".

Well I love my country too! That's why I got my avatar, The Philippine Crest. I just added two bichirs instead of the eagle and the lion. Also Manny Pacquiao vs. Miguel Cotto will be this weekend. Lol!

Yeah, but specific location matters to me if you're talking about breeding them. I understand your point about them being both "Guinea" but why would you mix a fish that you have a definite location point for with one that doesn't.
The "Sankarani" sounds interesting, you got any pics or info on them?
Somebody gave me 2 to 1 odds on Cotto, so if Pacquiao loses I have some kind of consolation, haha.
I hope that when these fish are ready to go that 'peeps here won't think that they'll be the same price as the CB bichirs that they have here. Some of the responses I'm getting from my posts there are actually funny, in particular one about the Teugelsi.

I want a platinum at McDonald's price if you can breed them.:D Nice bichirs bro.

You got a point there about Tikinso Guinea lap compare to just Guinea lap. As for the Sankarani lap, I don't have pics yet, but it look very similar to a sp. Koliba with a different head shape. It's kinda hard to explain right now what they look like as I don't have the particular lap yet. But when I have it I'll sure post pics of it and what are the difference between other lap regional variants.

Well... you can just always calculate the prices on how much you spend on breeding them and other stuff. But hopefully not too over price, but over price can have a good side too. To control the population of the bichirs in Pinas, as someone can just breed them as well and who knows might end up some hybrid and sell them with some crazy names to get more money. Also to not ruin the genes as most CB bichir that are in mass breeding programs end up with bad genes. Even some endli maxes out 13-14 inches now which way off from the wild caught specimen.

Again congrats on your future breeding program.

Very nice! Love the teugelsi group and the bichir bichir pair!

Thanks man, I'm just enjoying them for now, here's to hoping that they do breed in the future.
