upon reading my first post i realized i worded it kinda wrong... I pretty much just meant to say that the 4-line wont grow as fast as the channel, so if the channels bigger than the 4-line now, the 4-line wont catch up to the channel (and will never get as large as the channel either), but I have successfully kept my 4-line with larger fish as well which is why i suggested giving it a try (I know theres other here that have done the same too)
In my own experience, I have had my 4-line for about 8-10 months and seen maybe two to two and a half inches of growth in that time with it being 6-7 inches right now... not a fast growth rate in my book....
