Someone PLZ Help me with Pacu

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Honestly, releasing one fish probably won't be a big deal. You still shouldn't, but its not like they can breed with themselves. Do you have any fishkeeping experience? If you were to build an adequately sized tank/pond, it would cost hundreds or maybe thousands of dollars.

is your pond connected to any other bodies of water or is it landlocked?
pacu are tough, i have a gut feeling that he would be fine in the winter:)

My buddy caught one in a small river right by his house in the winter before haha. People around here are notorious for releasing pacu and piranha into it. But even though it might live for a while in the cold its best just to give it away.

Im glad your trying to provide for it but please dont release it into anything other than a controlled filtered man made house hold pond. Otherwise its like releasing it into an ecosystem. Put up the ad and see what happens

I'd do both- Make an ad, but if nobody takes him, put him in the pond. Sure, it's an ecosystem, but it's YOUR ecosystem, and (as long as it doesn't connect to a lake or anything), it won't affect anything but your lake-pond-thing.

It is my pond, it isnt connected to anything, I have tried the lfs and they were not willing to help other than verify the tank was too small which I already knew. I am not an experienced fish keeper, that is why I joined this forum and asked you guys, I had no where else to turn. I stick to gold fish, or any simple (small) fish. I am not opposed to building a pond, but just dont feel experienced enough or have the means to make it possible. I am going to post an ad for the fish today on this forum. If I dont get a response pretty quick, I will release him in the pond, and wish him the best.

Hey folks, I mentioned that the pacu has a sore of some sort on his mouth/nose area. There was an Oscar in the tank previously that had the same type sore. If this fish could be sick, I wouldnt want someone to take him and infect their tank. not that they wouldnt have enough experience to know better, but still.

The sore on the pacu nose could be from being in such a small tank that he constantly bumped his face..can you post a picture?

agreed with red devil!!!
ok lfs didnt help<they sell them but wont help out after<gits>
sounds like the pond could be ok as you say it is yours

but i would make sure you bring it up to good health 1st before relasing it,,,
try that medication from lfs cant remember name but it smells like menthol

The sore is what really started it all, I was trying to do right by the fish and bring him up to health, when, after researching, found that he is way too big for the tank. I dont want to risk the health of the other fish by treating him, or stress him out, if nothing is actually wrong except that he is too big for the tank and is miserable. Still think I should treat him? The sore is actually pretty bad, I will post a pic tomorrow.
