Something is wrong with my flower

Like i say i am no expert but it looks slightly swollen and discolored around the spiracle to me anyway?????

I guess this is where I get confused.....

Many times I've waited, watching symptoms, trying to figure out what's going on without realizing I'm just watching the ray slowly slip away then kicking myself for not doing something.

IF meds like Prazi and Metro are so safe why would you not treat with them at the first sign of something being wrong? IF they can be used as a preventative you should be fine.

Now can someone explain to me the problem with this way of thinking?

i was reading and thinking of the same thing yesterday... Prazi does say preventive. I have always been skeptical on treating unless i know what i am treating and that the treatment is for that..... i have had good luck with this way of thinking so far..

BUT would prazi help if something is wrong with spiracles? i have a bottle of prazi just sitting around. Would it be fine with Tigrinus, Gar, Datnoids...and my other rays to treat.. i would have to shut off my drip so is that a good risk to take?

i agree but does it look like parasite, bacterial, or just irritated? Or is this what a flower spiracle normally looks like ??
seems to me without something irritating the spiracle it would not be swollen Prazi will not disturb BB's but An Antibiotic would and seperation definatly necc. Pretty much your call at this point somethen definatly wrong tho with that Beauty.....

Take a better picture of it. Put your camera on microshot with the largest resolutions as possible. It'll be great to be able to see anything abnormal on the surface.

Prazi is relatively safe. Safe for tig, gar and dats. You will need to shut your drip for about two weeks. IME, the most effective way to treat with prazi is the following minimum 2 weeks of dosing. I have seen nematodes dissapear as little as 7-8 days from the firts day of treatment

Stan, you think i should just prazi then and see if it helps?

I took this with iphone, i can get a macro with my better camera tonight.

I can't speak for Shadow but I think he had some issues that Metro took care of and Prazi didn't......

He sold me on the Metro idea when I was concerned about a dented forehead on my precious. He's eating fine but just doesn't seem to keep weight on like the others so I will likely be doing a preventative Metro treatment once the pump issues on the tank are resolved. The rays in this tank have more sentimental value then any rays I have. IF I didn't whole heartedly think it was safe to treat as a preventative I definetly wouldn't.

Wish I could help on the spiracle bit but I've never even seen a decent sized Flower in person....

If you are going to treat for flukes I would go with the Metronidazole. It works very well against gill flukes. It is also effective against some bacterial afflictions. As for as Prazi and Nematodes, everything I have read says Praziquantel is ineffective against Nematodes. Nematodes are tough to kill and require a stronger med.
Prazi and metro each target different parasites. So what one may kill the other wont. Panacur will kill all parasites but is a much stronger med and will cause the ray to stop eating. It can also be a little more harsher on the rays.

where i am at right now, i dont think i am going to treat...yet... until i can tell what is going on... i hope i dont wait to long....................

he ate last night, so i am hoping that he will pass what is bothering him and stable out again... i felt good seeing him eat last night, but it is a PIA watching and waiting on him to calm down and then feed.
