Something is wrong with my flower

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Just read this thread, sorry to hear you flower is acting up, he was always so colorful. Maybe it is hardness and pH but wonder if it is the stress of keeping him with other rays

My flower and tiger are in ph of 8 and a tds of 620 right now with the tds going up to 800 at times, I'm not saying it's not a factor but with it doing well before I'd look elsewhere. Stress is the obvious first place to look and your the only one who will be able to guage that properly. Very easy place to start. Like dw said start someplace and only do one thing at a time for at least 4 days before trying something else new.

Well that helps me eliminate the hard water high ph........ I tested mine with a new swimming pool test kit for the ph last night and get 7.8 with it.

It has to be either stress....(which i cant imagine) since these are hystrix with him.. 1 of the hystrix is bigger than him but they just dont do much biting.. they do top during feeding time though.
So i am thinking it has to be a parasite, choking (or something stuck in digestive track),.
I did not have time last night but i think i will start the prazi tonight, just to see if that makes any difference...

Last night he went nuts over food and can eat cichlid gold pretty fast and showed a little bulge afterward. BUt i did see the tail straight in the air a few hours after feeding... was going to feed this morning before work but his tail was in the air then too.

Is your system well 'grounded'?
Perhaps there could be stray voltage?

thanks for another idea!
interesting thought... Not an electrical guru so not sure :)
All the plugs do have a ground prong... i have an old power head running maybe i should unplug it to be sure there is no short.

Ive seen a friends ray freak out bashing around the tank once before from leftover shrimp and fish in his filter tubes.... could not figure out what was going on.. all other fish acted fine... but i have tested MY water and it in check during and after feedings.

I would be hesitant on the stray voltage. My pond would light me up if I didn't stand on styro while working in it. Didn't seem to affect the rays.

Watched the voltage potential disappear on my fluke by adding a ground probe but also heard that change potential into real voltage if the path from the stray source and ground is crossed by the fish.

After reading till my head hurt I pulled the ground probes and let it be. I eventually fixed the Stealth heaters causing it by replacing them.

I guess if they are a more sensative ray maybe it's possible, but it didn't seem like it made a differnce in my experience.

Seems this subject is highly debatable by either side.
