Hello; Honest mistake? Intresting point of view. The first report stated that the apt's were supposed to be pet-free. How is this in any way an "honest" mistake. A couple with a small child pick a pet free building and someone in another apt. decides to have a python against the rules and allows it to get free.
true that. keeping animals in a pet-free apt wasn't 'honest'.
I'm curious as to whether or not the owner knew the snake was out, although he may have still thought it was hiding somewhere in his own apt.
If he knew it escaped he should've notified neighbors. but probably wouldn't, because no pets are allowed.

It would be awful scary to find that happening to your baby!!

Hello; True it did not kill the infant which is good. The other part of the story was about a child actually killed by a families pet snake.
I for one do care.
I don't think ball pythons get anywhere near large enough to be able to swallow a child, but wonder if it would be able to be deadly had it constricted the babies neck?

HOWDY HOO; If you want to constrict a babies neck you don't need a ball python I'm sure any common medium sized snake that commonly wander into homes would do the trick.

my husband always comments about the niceties of TN residents, compared to Calif (& other places).
not saying NJ is extra harsh or anything... but ya'all shoot neighbors for farting.

ANYHOW. all ppl should manage their pets appropriately. and it's also hard to be completely bullet-proof.
Despite trying my utmost, I once put a dog down for wanting to nip kids' bottoms...too much liability to gamble with it, once the dog had succeeded.

no need for ppl to focus on being defensive about the snake. there's more than one issue in the circumstances.

well, this is not accurate. there's a big diff between the average native wandering snakes and non-native constrictors.
I've had a couple wilds get inside my residences & they couldn't have choked a baby.

Compared to Cali?

I eat a bowl of polite every morning and pee a cup of nice, then drink it

Hello; There are indeed a few dangerous native species here in the southeastern USA. Mainly for venom. In other parts of the world many other native species are more deadly including the constrictors. To me a key issue is that this was not in any way a natural event.
It is a shame that someone will, by being irresponsible, damage the image of exotic pet keepers and perhaps even further restrict the keeping of the pets. I somewhat doubt that the parents of the child bitten on the foot will care for the distinction between a ball python and a retic.
While there have been some reasoned posts on this thread so far, there have also been the less than helpful posts that this sort of topic typically seems to draw. To dismiss such an incident like it is no big deal may actually damage the cause.
For those like myself who have a tendency to want others to be able to keep exotic pets it often appears that some will become unreasonably defensive and resuse to admit any level of problem. It is hard to be on your side on this issue.

YEP. haha.
It's like another world back there with the locals, in tennessee. and older is definitely sweeter.
