Source for Arapaima

Well looking into Ichiban Tropical I can see he was selling 5" individuals for $265. Considering I need about 15,000 that will be waaay to expensive. I vaguely remember seeing them for like $15 wholesale (but maybe I'm thinking alligator gars) so that's more of the ballpark I'm looking for.

I will certainly look into the SA farms. I believe the company is already in contact with a couple of them.

Thanks for the input!

Problem with Alibaba is if the farm is in China, hard to say if they put chems into the water to treat them???

I'm not involved in this industry, but did do a trip to Iquitos a couple of years ago and visited a tropical fish distribution facility. There are some arapaima farms outside of Iquitos, Peru--unfortunately the farms are in a malaria hot zone. I imagine your company is on top of the aquaculture aspects:

These guys operate in the eastern part of Peru, I think somewhere around the Columbian border, it's a big operation:

If you're thinking about feed, you may want to check out:

http://www.enterrafeed.com/

It's a Canadian operation producing black soldier flies for aquaculture feed using composted waste food material as the nutrient input for the fly larvae. The goal is to avoid using fish meal as feed to reduce fishing pressure on ocean species lower down the food chain.
