Southern Ontario goldfish invasion

When smoked (not as in ganga) common carp tastes like almost any other smoked fish, although seems to be seasonally more muddy flavored at times, or if taken from turbid rivers. The carp from large clear mesotrophic, or or oligotrophic lakes like Michigan or Superior are really good eating, and can get 4-5 ft in length, although most probably average 3 ft. I would see lunkers jet past when scuba diving on or slightly below the thermocline.
I believe they were intentionally introduced from China back in the 1800s as food fish. In those non eutrophic lakes, they thrived, but didn't overpopulate because of the lack of vegetation .
In the last decade one of the most destructive introductions have been the brown goby that came in in the bilge of Asian container ships, where they have taken over the near shore habitat edging out native species like sculpin, and eating the spawns of bass and other game fish.

my favourite rainbow trout spot as a kid. I stopped there on my way home for a few casts a couple of years ago and saw weird colour flashes, then watched a G.B.heron pull out a 10" goldfish from the next rock along.

Once I had my prey-image everything I saw was a goldfish (where thre used to be trout). The article talks of netting, but they'll need to poison the lake out at public expense

ok I plan on making a move this spring and writing the township I doubt that they will care (it does not help that im a teen) but I will ask for permission to try to exterminate some myself which once again they most likely will shut down but hopefully not. but If so thats what I am going to be doing and maybe I will even get a team together to help. When I was checking the pond before some one came out of their house and yelled at me saying I was going to kill the poor fish if I kept them out of the water for so long. and me being the socially awkward teen that I am threw the fish back and left I know bad move but I panicked. my freind who was helping me went back later and someone yelled at him too and told him they put them their to eat the mosquitoes so we know 100% that someone put them there intentionally. The funny thing is that the people who released them could be fined up to 250 000 in ontario all because they did no research before releasing these fish its sad and is making me lose faith in humanity. A second offence could get them a 500 000$ fine who knows how long they have been dumping goldfish in the pond.My friend knows who did it and would tell me if i asked but we have no intentions of ratting people out and maybe just a scare when they realize what they could be faced with if they were charged will be enough but I doubt it :(
