I love spearfishing for perch and bowfishing for carp. No better way to spend a day.

True. Ive done both, but prefer spearing. Bow fishing arrows cost too much, and I wasnt quite accurate enough! :D

What part of Wisconsin are you from? We are all in the greater Stevens Point area, and have a good number of guys diving and spearing. You can check the group on facebook "Central Wisconsin Spearfishers" Thats us! We mainly target crappies around here. We have one lake where they probably average 10". Ive shot a 16" in there though! :D

Here are the other pictures I promised.

cool but crappie spearing must get tedious after the 30th one. The reason i warned you earlier is that some modes are British carp fishermen and hate seeing a dead carp.

No. Its really not. Crappies are one of the most challenging fish to shoot. The lake that that picture, and fish were taken from has increadibly stupid fish for some reason. Because of this we only go there up to three times a year. If mods from england dont like seeing dead carp, they should come HERE and fix the problems that their european ancestors brought here when they brought carp with them. They have basically DESTROYED the natural ecosystem DEVASTATING natural fish populations. Im sorry that one mans food is another mans pet. Do you know that people in the amazon, KILL and EAT piraracus and arrowanas? People in florida eat oscars, so have I. Am I "Pissed" no... So w/e.

We spear a lot in the Plover later in the summer, but during the spring months we hit up Bear, Sunset, Spring, Fountain, Emily (occasionaly, if visibility is good enough, which it usually isnt anymore), Crystal, and other lakes. Later in the year we are restricted to the Plover, and Lake Michigan. I work at Divepoint, so you are probably familiar with that if you've been downtown.

I have speared in Lake Kariba before on the Zambian side. Was awesome but the thought of a rogue croc coming through and choosing me for lunch got me out of the water early.

I got a few catfish, some nice tilapia and an ATF ( vittatus ).

Ive thought how cool it would be to spear in South America, or some of the Rift Lakes would be. Too bad you dont have any pictures of that day... it would be epic. Eventually Ill go back to South America, and Ill take my gear with me.
