this is my best hog 17" in ft of water on a reck in the bahamas. i shot a big one in that same spot but a 10ft nurse shark took it. i had to hit him in the face twice to make him go away. im still looking for the pic with all the fish i got that trip.

Thats a nice little hog...Im super surprised that a nurse shark tried to rob you. They usually leave well alone. Not to mention their mouths are tiny.

Next time just let it have the fish.

what happened was i shot the fish and it tore off and went under a lege and i was at the surface getting a few breaths before i went back down to get him and i turned around and the shark was like 10ft away mouth wide open. i hit him in the nose with with my spear and he bit it. i had to rip it out of his mouth and hit him again before he went back down, but i couldnt get the hog because the shark had his head in the lege. on my way back to the boat i saw a 6 foot white tip reef shark

Nurse shark would never hurt you dude. I dont even think they could really bite you...its the way their mouth is shaped. I know some divers that mess with them like they are dogs.

I have had bullies come in for my fish though, and I have defended my quarry as well.

Nurse are responsible for most diving shark bites and on a 10 footer mouth is like a foot wide and he can bite me easly and really mess me up.

Wrong. Since 1580 the nurse shark has been responsible for only 49 attacks. Only 1/5 of those were unprovoked.

This means that in 430 years... 0.02279 actual attacks on humans a year. You have a better chance of dying from a bee sting. I bet you that there has never been a fatal nurse shark attack. There may have been attacks where people died from the side affects, but I would be willing to bet that no one has ever died from the attack itself. I cant believe you punched a nurse shark.

I love spear fishing. I used to live in the Cayman isles and spearfished on a reg. No need for wetsuit, just plain skin diving on reefs. 50ft is the deepest I've been to shoot grouper, snappers, parrotfish, even lobsters. My friend got chased down by a barracuda that was at least 6 ft, nasty looking teeth. The best thing about it is you can swim from shore and do it, have the hot pan with oil ready on the beach. Clean the fish. Salt pepper and seasoning and bamn fried fish. MMMMMM mouthwatering. Cnt wait to go back to visit.
