Being able to move tanks is one of the reasons I wish to get stronger as it’s not often I have someone else to help me.

I have been spending more time running, cycling, and lifting this year than any other since high school. I am 6'4" 205lb. Best mile time this year was 5:32, bench press 225lb x 15 reps, and have been working on pull ups recently. Running and cycling are the only leg exercises I am currently doing.

It doesn't matter how strong you are, there's a very limiting awkwardness factor with big fish tanks. Always better to have help.

That is certainly true however there are ways to get around it and pure strength helps a lot as you can don’t need as many people to help move a tank.

Well I've learned a good lesson recently. I managed to lose all my walking shoes during covid so I got a pair of flip flops to walk in not thinking it made that much of a difference. 3-5 miles a night 5 nights a week puts a lot of wear and tear on a pair of cheap flip flops from walmart and I ended up wearing out the ball of the flip flop soon. Thus comes the next shoes which were 2 random pairs of cheap tennis shoes from walmart. I've now wore out one of them and I've now realized that I should get a good pair of shoes that will be comfortable and make me want to walk instead of despise it. Last night I intended to walk 10 mile but I stopped due to foot pain just before the 9th mile ended. Tonight I stopped just before I finished my 4th mile as I already had had to take a break due to foot pain. Luckily I still hit my 5 mile goal due to walking during the day. Needless to say these shoes are trash and belong in the trash as well and I am going to be getting some shoes meant for long distances. At the moment I'm still looking but I'll be purchasing some soon. I'm also looking at insets and foot pads.

Even for walking those type of distances you need some serious footwear, otherwise, as you're finding out, an injury is just a matter of time away. Get a proper pair of running shoes from a professional fitter. Expensive but worth every penny. Then, as your fitness gets better and you progress from walking to casual jogging to serious running you are kitted out in a proper fashion throughout.

I'll tell you from experience you do not want to be wearing inappropriate footwear and then have your achilles tendon go as a result. Shin splints, knee problems and ankle joint pain are also no fun. They'll keep you from doing any exercise for weeks/months and all your good work will have been for nothing.

Forget your next expensive catfish for now, get them shoes.....then get the catfish

I normally laugh at the gym guys and girls who spend a fortune on big brand name activewear/ gym clothing (some of the girls do look good in those pants and shorts though........)
I usually wear old shorts and free promotional T shirts I get from work and trade shows.
But 2 things I never skimp on are tools, I learned this in my tradesman days and shoes. I mean shoes specifically for a purpose like you are realising you need or hiking, safety etc.
I find I have to make exercise as comfortable and easy to do as possible, the thought of having sore feet before all your walks will quickly kill your motivation and you will start to miss day. Spending some decent cash on a pair of good shoes should give you a boost, especially once you try them out and feel the difference on your feet.

I didn’t even know a professional shoe fitter was a thing until just now and wouldn’t have known if you hadn’t brought it up esox so thank you. I found one close to me so I’ll pay them a visit I reckon.

I’m trying to arrange another purchase from aqua imports to get a 4th Wallace’s shoehead catfish but with their lack of communication it appears as though I’ll get these shoes before I get the fish.

I once read somewhere in the jungle that is the internet that from someone’s own personal life experiences they’ve found out that you should never go cheap on things that separate you from the ground such as shoes, bed, etc, and I’m finding it to be true.

I like this.
Good shoes do make a world of difference.

Also flip flops (we call them thongs here which confuses americans) are very bad for your feet and can cause fallen arches and you walk slightly differently when you wear them which can cause other problems. You should never walk long distances in them, just use them for bumming around the houseand running errands. Here profesional footballers arent allowed to wear them, its actually in there contracts because they are so bad for the feet.
You may wear your version of thongs whereever and whenever you choose, I will not judge you on that!
