i have seen fish that are mislabeled at public aquarium, and they aren't even as hard to distinguish or as similar looking as florida and spotted gars. it's probably not a common occurrence, but it does happen.chefjamesscott;3150521; said:well tell you what, what you see if a fish that specifically ordered in for the royal saskatchewan museum and is 10 years old and I can assure you it is not a florida gar as the museum was very precise in getting exactly what they display. I would suppose the museum staff know the difference between a florida and a spotted gar I just wish I knew how to spell the title of the museum staffer who built this wing of the r.s.m. I just don't want to mispell it lololol
not saying whether your museum is correct or not, but just because it labels it as spotted doesn't automatically mean they are correct. i've been to aquariums where they have 'spotted' gars, but chances are they're probably florida from what i learn, as most can't tell the two species apart, and automatically call them 'spotted' because they have spots.
