Absolutely not shortnose or longnose, how could you even confuse them? I could almost see someone saying they are shortnose, when they are that size, they do look similar. I will post some video of the inside of their mouths. also, shortnose don't live where I am at, and they don't even approach 4 feet. or even 3 feet that I know of.

i can't believe you are still posting in these threads, as Ryan said, no useful dialog will likely come from the thread at this point. what i did feel was important was making sure the appropriate info got across in terms of spotted gars, Ryan, Richard, and some others have helped with this. your posts degraded into pointless insults before anyone else's did.
as for LNG and SNG vs SPG...what body of water are you collecting out of? this would help validate your claims to LNGs not being around...i can understand SNGs being in a constrained distribution where you are at (texas is a big state of course), but LNG are found in most watersheds where SPGs are. then again, some of those may be big words...and as you made clear in the other thread, i don't know **** about gars

I am not "collecting" gars. I already described the body of water I am talking about, but to be more specific, the closest river is the brazos. and that is a long ways off. The only gar that inhabit the waters near me are spotted and spats. There are definitely no shortnose gars near me.
Bull poopy.. The fish you show are shorts.. I'm not arguing with your butt. about it as it is rather clear. They are SNG.. The LNG looking thing might be a Spot but I doubt it.

I knew when I put this video up that people were going to say they were Shorts. They aren't. and there are definitely no Spotted or LNG. What you are seeing is an extremely isolated population of spatula gar. the creek that I threw them into didn't have spats in it at all, but it was the best I could do. The creek is full of spotteds.
I tried to get the govt. involved, various agencies didn't care whatsoever. I am a water well driller and I have my own drilling rigs, so I actually trespassed on this property, drilled a well, and started pumping water into these ponds. The problem I ran into is that the creek nearby started sinking. so it was a lose/lose situation. the creek is spring fed and is the only thing keeping a relatively large animal population alive.
when you say "I just can't seem to ID it" you are hitting the nail on the head with your framing hammer.
The gar in these ponds just don't get very big, I don't know if it has to do with periodic flooding or isolation or what. The turtles and beaver and whitetail deer on the other hand are the biggest I have ever seen anywhere.
