So... I have a 30 gallon I just broke down. There's been a disease in it one too many times and I couldn't figure out a cure after many methods and research...

Now... its soaking in bleach and water, beggining its sterilization process.... I was going to buy a new black vinyl background for it....

BUT...

Would BLACK SPRAY PAINT be an effective way to put a permanent background onto my new tank? Keep in mind it is not in use.... It would be given several days to dry, and wiped down for excess paint particles after its painting process...

YES or NO? Will it work?
YES or NO? Will it look good/better than a vinyl black backdrop taped on?

i would imagine if u spray only the outside you would be okay... but the chemicals in the actual paint, if sprayed on the inside, would definitely harm the fish

ive done a few.black is good for larger bright color or silver fish.Whats going in the tank.
yes it works
depends on how good a job you do

I would rather paint it with black paint and a paint brush. Down the line if you decide you don't want it its much easier to remove it with a blade.

Black sand, 2 to 3 dozen cardinal tetra's, and 1 blue crayfish will occupy this tank....

I suppose if I take my time and carefully paint it will come out right..... should I take my chances, or go with a brush instead?

problem with spray paint are rogue particles that may find themselves into your tank. I agree that paintbrush technique is better

I've seen it done before, however, when it came time for me to do it, I went with the paint brush. It went very well, and was cheap and easy. (please, watch the witty come-backs; this is a family show):D

I spray all my tank, just tape & paper off the area that you want to paint.

I paint mine in overlapping stripes of various colors (light/dark primer gray, red primer, gold, silver, white & flat black with a full coat of flat black) Kinda looks like the side of a river under water.

I also paint all 3 sides and the bottom and the fish don't get spooked any more.

This is on glass tanks of course. (spray is so thin, comes off easily with a razor blade).
