Spraypainting tanks backgrounds Black...... Yes/No?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I sprayed my 240 gal with like 3-4 cans, actually I think I only used four cans.

Just grab newspaper and blue tape (same place you get spray paint). Fold newspaper over top of tank and sides. Spend time on prep and you'll spend less time painting. When you spray, use a light 'prime' coat - then dry- spray heavier coats keeping in mind not to get runs or sags.

brush-on paint using spongebrushes work really well. someone's probably already mentioned it, but you should use acrylic latex enamel. that stuff is easy to remove if you wanna change colors, and it looks good from inside and out.

Yes! If you use the latex based one its much easier to remove than spray paint, because its rubber like nature, the blade tears right through it very easily. :clap

use a roller dude! quick, safe n reliable!

Never have used a roller, I must try that sometime, I have a 46 gallon that I want to try that one. I've always used a brush and have to be very careful so the brush strokes don't show too much. Do you have any pictures of some tanks that you have painted with this technique?

i have an extra 10 gallon tank and some paint ill paint it and take a few pics and put them up to give you an idea.

well i just did it

heres the tank

Picture733.jpg

use painters tape and tape up the trim around the tank.

Picture735.jpg

Tape up the sides of the tank so no paint can drip down onto the sides

Picture738.jpg

heres the paint and the sponge brush , i know the paint isn't the best color but the tank is going to be a hospital tank

Picture741.jpg

start painting the back now, i used half decent thick coat's for it

Picture740.jpg

Ok got the complete back of the tank painted i made sure i went in one direction with the brush at all times so theres no smears in the background, heres the back all painted .

Picture742.jpg

the tank is drying now at the moment when it dries ill take a picture of it from the front ,
and then in a day or so ill fill it up and take another

Wow the things a fellow mfk'er will do for another mfk'er

Hope this helps so far

I actually only noticed the scratches AFTER I filled it with water....

Where can I get this repair kit?

Ok so assumign that the scratched side was the front it might be worth while scraping the back and checking it for scratches then if its ok paint the front side.
