JL, this is a fish I bought from Wes back when he had his shop by your house in diamond bar. The fish was always unstable and had blotched and faded bars and marks. I kept bugging Wes to sell it to me and he finally did. I put it in my tank and in less than two days turned into pure gold and was stable until they day I sold him. If I remember Wes said he didn't know if it was a real ST because of the markings but maybe because he never saw it stable. lol it has wide bars and Indo tail markings. Interesting eh?
Anyways, one of my favorite fish I have kept.

That is a ST widebar imo. Very nice looking at that. That middle bar being so fat on top and tapers down to a point on the bottom, so damn sexy. Might have a indo tail marking but that middle bar is perfect classic ST. I believe everyone will agree that is a ST but u ultimatejay.

I'm not saying any of these aren't ST. I'm saying that they don't have the classic ST markings- oddball. So I'm wondering if there is a chance of a hybrid or is it just a genetic defect?
I'm also saying there are many IT that closely resemble some ST and sometimes they can easily be miss labeled.
Anyways, I wanted to see how other people ID Dats because there is a lot of different opinions. So far not too many people have given any examples of what they look for when they ID a ST. So I will give you mine.

First I look for the classic ST bars and tail wrap. If that is not perfect then I look at the overall shape of the fish. ST have more of a spoon head shape where IT have more of a pointed face and square shaped body. Next I look for stability and color. ST when stable are more gold and tend to be more stable than IT. Having said that I have seen some nice stable gold IT's too. Then I make an educated guess lol.
Some fish we can flip I coin on.
