ST dat ID

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
What do you think of this Dat? It's much easier to iD a large Dat but small Dats are much harder. Probably Indo but it doesn't have the bulge on the third bar. See what I mean?

You focused on the 3rd bar and missed out the faint bar in between. Plus, depend on the angle the picture was taken, and how does its other side look? Like I said, you gotta judge a fish base on a whole fish!

I already know my short term memory is shot, kind of disapointing to hear my long term memory might be gone too. 2004 the latest before the warning i got from Rich. I stopped spending money on dats in one of those years, so maybe out of the loop soon after. Possibly more got brought in by him & Wes for a few years after. Anthony's tropical fish (another dat vendor) in cali also told me they were gone for gd or at least a long while in that time period. Glad more people got to get them for cheap after 2002
Don't feel bad. You're not the only one who lost his mind over fish lol.

Looks like this little one is Pulcher then because it has more Pulcher traits. Like I said, you guys are just giving your best guess. Maybe right maybe wrong- no 100% guarantee.
Who says your an expert?
Second bar is perfect thick bar down to nice point to the bottom, third bar has a tiny bump which I have seen in ST and 4th bar has nice bar down to tail wrap like a ST. So with you theory it's an ST. But I say it's just a 3 bar Indo. Throw color out the window- too young and like I said I've seen indo's just as gold as St.
That fish screaming IT, yet you think it has more pulcher trait? Would you buy it as a pulcher?
Perhaps you missed out those years when Rich from Ininite Aquatics or Charlie from Fish Tank Factory brought a whole lot of those little IT, and we could just pick out those 3-bar. If you've done that, you wouldn't have hard time to recognize them once you see them

I'm just wondering if the Maury show will DNA test some dats ..... I can hear him now... You are not a pulcher and you are a pulcher! Then you see him yelling there's no way it's got wrong traits!!! Lmfao
i rather watch Jerry Springer host the show. LOL

So now we're back on bars? lol
What about all those odd ball multi bar ST's? So on those we rule out on bars and base solely on gold color? lol
I've seen Pulcher with fainted bar or small marks too haven't you?

I think this fish has more ST traits than IT. Second big bar is perfect, third and fourth bar are classic ST with tail wrap. But it's easy for you to say it's IT because we know young Juvie ST's are almost non existent.

All I know is I will buy this fish for 30 bucks all day long over a 5000.00 ST when the difference between the two is so minimal. So basically all your buying is the name.

Please show me a picture of pulcher with fainted bar. Yes, pulcher has small mark, but it's a define mark, not the one that appears or disappears base on its mood.
I agree with you that if you can't tell the difference between pulcher and microlepis, then the difference between the two is so minimal to non-existence, and it's true that all you buying is the name. Better off buying a $30 fish over $5000 ST, although there's no such $5000 ST

Ultimate..IT bars come in countless shapes and differences. Every once in a while one pops up with a similar looking swoop. They've been seen before, you're not the first to have one...Small Indos sometimes will have a tail wrap at those sizes. I've seen several and every time that I've witnesses the wrapped tail it becomes unwrapped once the IT starts growing, so I don't know where you're going. Still searching for more ST traits you're talking about

I remember you said you've had years of experience with ST's. With every post you make, it's becoming more apparent this isn't true

Not an expert, but I can certainly tell the difference between an IT and a ST when I see one. But thanks though, cause i'm gonna just take it that you think i'm an expert by your post...You certainly have much doubt when you talk about these fish, cause of this..you should have thought twice before derailing in the "Buy and Sell" with all your uncertainty

The Dat that I posted I don't see faded bars. I see a couple faded horizontal dots behind second big bar.
These two fish look a lot alike in my opinion. Notice on the Pulcher you posted it has the forward bump on the third bar- not counting eye bar, just like IT. Even the shape is almost identical and tail wrap. The only difference is the fish in your pic is stable and the one I posted isn't. But one is in a black back tank and one is in a tank with no decor/glass.

And yes I do see faded bars and faded marks on several fish in this pic. The one fish just in front of the vertical white PVC pipe at the bottom. And the fish at the bottom right sitting above the horizontal PVC pipe by the bubbles. Both look like they have faded marks/bars. I

I do however see that those fish are more stable and have more gold color to them than the one I posted so maybe that's a deciding factor.

Btw- I bought some of those fish from Wes back then. We are all kicking ourselves in the butt for not buying more and keeping them today eh? lol
65.00 lol

But seriously it looks like there is more and more three bar indo's that look almost identical for a fraction of the cost. Unless I win the lottery, I'll be buying those lol
