ST dat ID

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My question is if you guys have this hard of a time telling the difference then who cares at all? If you have to look at a fish with a microscope or do a DNA test to confirm you have the rare version then whats the point of arguing over it or paying the larger price?

Ultimatejay would probably call this a Silver datnoid with his vast knowledge of identification skills.

Your wrong bud. Get over. There are no hybrid datnoid species. Not all IT, ST, NTT, AT or NGT have mandatory barring. Each fish is different, they can all have oddball barring. Does a tig have a specific pattern? NO. Once again, each fish is different.

I agree not all fish will have the exact same pattern. So when you have these oddball fish or different pattern that's not exact what do you do to confirm 100% correct ID?

The characteristics that make an St an ST or an IT an IT never change. Just because it has 3 bars on ea side or 3 in one side and a fork on the other doesnt make it a hybrid. Some people can do algebra, some cant. Some folks can ID datnoids, some cant.

All these people saying I'm wrong then tell me how you are identifying the fish? Fish shape, bars, position and shape of bars, color of fish, etc. other than, " I know what one looks like" doesn't work for me and it wouldn't work if you were in court disputing something. You have to have clear proof through data, characteristics, where fish was caught, etc. So far none of you have given any.

It's whatever a buyer is willing to pay and take a risk of what the fish truly is. What I find interesting is I talked to the seller and he says he bought it in 2008 at a local fish store in NC and it was labeled as just datnoid. Even back in 2008 ST dats were rare and expensive. It's hard to believe a LFS in NC would just happen to get an ST by chance. Could it happen? Yes, but odds are against it.

You question everything. It's good you weren't the store owner, this dat would of been listed an Indo and you could of possibly been facing false advertising charges by someone who doesn't know what's going on either. Luckily the recent seller of this fish knew what he had and so didn't the new owner by making this great purchase
