How long does it take for it to do anything? I am hanging it in a bag by the filter to figure out how much to use before I put it in the filter.

Fish store guy cautioned me to not go too crazy as it could cause a big upswing, but I've never read that... he showed me how much it changed a test tube but that was just a test tube, not a 65 gallon tank. I have maybe 3/4 cup in there now, it's been in there a day. It's 6.6 now - I'd like it closer to / right around 7. Should I wait a bit longer or just add more now?

Thanks.

Yeah it will take a couple days to disolve into the water. You want to move slowly anyway. To avoid anykind of Ph shock, thats whats so good about doing it this way instead of with one of those Ph up chemical Ph adjusters.
As it disolve the water in the tank will come to a natuarlly adjusted and stable Ph.
If it comes out at somewhere around 6.8 to say 7.2 or something like that you will still be good.
At that point it will be better to focus on stability, other than a certain Ph value

Yes, that's what I'm looking for. Since my tap is 7ish, I was hoping it could keep it around there, and then I can minimize the chemical use. (I use that in small doses over a day just to keep it above 6.4 to start. Better than below 6!!
