Standard Procedure?

First of all these thread wasn't title "When is it appropriate to kill our pets."

It's about handling potentially dangerous constrictors. And just like a constrictor, my dog will never shred me to pieces, because just like my python, I take steps to insure my pets won't ever have the upperhand against me. My dog is well trained. My python is handled on a daily basis. If either attack, I am well prepared to deal with it in a non violent way.

I'm irresponsible? Because I'm not willing to slice and dice my python when there are alternate means of avoiding death? Why stab a snake when you can simply use something that burns his mouth? Why permanently damage something you love when there is no need? Hduece, have you ever owned a large python? Something tells me no...
If a 10ft + snake is trying to constrict you, what would you do, hmm?

You may be as well prepared as possible. But that may not be well enough prepared. What now you fall to the floor from the force of a 200 pound snake lunging at you rubbing alcohol is spilled pair of scissors within reach, you feel the snake restricting further and you cant uncoil him. what now? chalk up another death for the misunder stood reptile and die knowing he still loves you.

i dont own a large reptile because owning a dangerous undomesticated animal is, well, dangerous.

116, I think we've all agreed that it would be a last resort, at least I've mentioned it several times.

LOL second of all. It's CONstricting. Not REstricting. And I may be a whopping 110 lbs, but being bit isn't enough to knock me to the ground. If my Burmese happened to catch me off guard, he'd end up grabbing my arm. Now lets say this is a worst case scenario... His cage isn't on the floor, so he'd pull me into a shelf, where he would then proceed to wrap himself around whatever he could grab hold of(most likely my waist). By now, I'd have grabbed hold of his head, pressed my arm back into his mouth(Snakes teeth are hinged, you've got to do this so you don't tear your arm open), then removed it. I'd hold his head still until he calmed down.

Keep in mind, there is a reason for everything in life. Animals don't attack for "no reason" They is always a reason my friend. Oh, and read my first post. A machete wouldn't be able to slice through a snakes muscle, let alone a pair of skizzors. xD

I think everybody here who agreed with the knife thing would have it within reach for a very last resort. Me personally? I handle all large constricting snakes while all adults in my family are in the room. I use a snake hook, I react to their behaviour that particular day and access whether its higher chance nothing is going to go wrong today.

Accidents happen. So I have various things handy. First off, at least 2-3 people nearby. The alcohol trick is always nearby, a few other minor tricks up my sleave, and lastly, yes something nearly by to injure it with. I would never see the need to use something to injure it with, and I don't personally think I will ever need it. But Should I..it is there, and yes, tbh its mostly piece of mind that should something happen, I don't panic, as I know if it gets to far I do have the means to get it off. So in easing my panic, I can try other methods first.

Would I let an animal kill me so I didn't have to kill it? NO. And I'm certain this is everybody elses responses here to, whether they like to admit it or not.

I love ALL my animals dearly, and shiver at the thought of ever having to hurt them, it really makes me sad, but if all else fails, on the 1 in a few billion chance nothing else works yes I personally will injure it.

I'd like to see who honestly would let an animal kill them over killing them..and i mean in all honesty. Whether it be a dog, a snake, or any other animal.

Anyways, the alcohol trick is MY last resort. What I'm trying to tell you guys, is that knifing a snake WILL NOT WORK. Jessica, you should know even from your little royal pythons. Having a knife on hand isn't going to save you. It'd be like trying to stab your way through steel. Anyone who deals with large constrictors can tell you this. You might as well keep a grenade launcher with you.
