There is a nice sticky post in here about how the most important thing is limitations...whatever you have the most of...something along those lines. Tanks with good lighting may not need CO2 is the jist of the article. Guy has some pretty awesome tanks.
ive seen the sticky, and have plenty of comments in there :)

see what most people cant understand is that different species of plants have different requirements; they are like fish. just cause its green doesnt mean it will have the same needs as the next plant.

MFK is not really a hardcore planted tank site. take a stroll over to plantedtank.net if you wanna see some amazing setups. try telling those guys they can grow their plants and maintain their setups without co2 ;)

bottom line, YOUR PLANTED TANK REQUIREMENTS ARE DICTATED BY THE SPECIES OF PLANTS YOU CHOOSE, thats all there is to it really

here's another one of my favorite HC/blyxa setup. i challenge somebody to try and grow this without pressurized co2, lemme know how it goes :)

again, most of the people who have a planted tank dont need it. u know it too! lol. some couldnt be done with out it but it is not nessecary on at least 90% of planted tanks. some do but most peoples do not!

if youre talking about the tanks on MFK where people add two stands of java fern and and a shred of anubias, then yes, as these plants dont need co2. but like i said, this guy's setup is different, and he's trying to grow some very demanding plants. so if you dont know, why are you telling him he doesnt need co2? you obviously have no experience with these plants o the "iwagumi" setup he's trying to make

Where are you getting your statistics from? There is not 1 plant in any aquarium that will not benefit from CO2. Do you understand how photosynthesis works?

yes and i never said wouldnt benefit i said unnessesary.

alright my feelings about c02 may have come across ascewed. my writing skills have much to be desired. lol
I like c02 setups. they are very good for certain setups. alot of setups can be done completly without it being added from that kind of equipment. others require it. if u want c02 that fine but there are other things that should be figured out first.
Again i like c02 setups thats why i askd the OP were he was getting his supplys to run such a cheap setup because i want to replant my 10g but do much heavier planting and carpet so it would help greatly to run c02.
