That's what I thought... Always call them GTF.

I would not sell this for the same reason I will not sell Airapaima- majority of the fish keepers can not house them properly..

I would consider special ordering a GTF if requested.

gtf is goliath tiger fish.

They are of the same Genus..

Are we talking hydrocynus goliath or vittatus?

A trade secret: most wholesalers make the majority of their money on the small common fish like neons and guppies. You can either go that route, go the rare fish route and offer stuff other people don't have, or go the breeding route.

either home or storefront id offer a huge variety a food. frozen, dried, live, bagged, cans you name it. thats stuff people use on a daily basis. the toilet isnt your moneymaker its the paper that goes in it..... customer service! longer buisness hours! offer trade ins and make it known! i personaly think a mailing list/text update for new items or sale items is a good idea too. good luck. 1 day i hope to run a store too.

how about fronts? im pretty sure they sell good just about anywhere, specially if you have good quality ones

I havent read the whole post, but keep in mind that what people on MFK want isnt necessarily what the average person on the street wants.

You have to make sure that you can move as many fish, as fast as possible.

Although the real money is made on setups/etc, its somewhat hard in todays day and age for LFS's to compete in the hardware department.

Offer a quality product, quality service, and you have a chance to run with the big boys I think.

quality quality quality... every LFS I've worked at or been a customer too.. This is what people want! Put out a good product. PERIOD. LFS make money on repeat business. Bread and Butter fish are hard to compete w/ Chain stores on... But.. get color strains they do not have, or simply better quality ones. Know your competition.

distributors distributors distributors... as already stated.. alot of LFS get fish from the same vendors.. avoid useing the same ones, or adding others to your list.

At my LFS tanks are sold at cost and most equipment such as filters heaters and lighting is only sold at 33% profit.

If you try to sell a 10 gallon tank for 24 dollars (markup is normally 2x) you are not going to sell any. If anything, you may make a dollar rounding up the cost of a tank.

The idea is to sell cheap equipment that works, so your customers have more money to buy fish and they are likely to go larger (which means they will buy more fish).
