Starting over 60 gallon - ideas?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
A 6-8 inch fish would be alright in it. Ideally I like the 18 inches width tanks (give fish 2x length as turning space). I am not a fan of shortbody flowerhorns, many have issues but it depends on what OP likes.

Makes sense. I'll keep an eye out, some of these have beautiful markings.

I checked locally but most of the ones available to me seem to be the larger ones and the unmarked ones. I dont think I'd like to roll the dice in case it turns out to be one of the bigger ones or poor genetics.

Thank you for that!

I got the tank ready now - waters a little cloudy from all the rinsing but just put in all the old media.

Does anyone know if Salvini cichlid could work?

I've always heard they are very aggresive but their colors are really nice. Wondering if a single one or pair would do well for life

Yeah personally I'm the same when it comes to shortbody fish in general. Not a real big fan of any kind of short body. Granted I will say tho that some do end up looking nice.

Thank you everyone for all the help. I ended up deciding against the flowerhorn due to the risk of ending up with a fish being borderline too big for this tank for life.

Instead I went with some salvini as I've never kept them before and should be stopping off at around 8 or 9" long for the tank should be more adequate.

Cheers!

If you want a more peaceful tank you can do this:

3 discus
10-15 neon tetras

or if you want a more predatory tank you can go the Bichir route.

But recently you said you want personality, a center piece blood parrot would be cool

You could probably add some dithers like green swordtails, when they breed, the young could act as a supply for food.

Just wondering what would be the biggest possible fish someone could fit in this tank ?
