Still Don't Understand FX5 Mania?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
apparently, the eheim 2262 is waaaaay heavier. due to all the media space.

Isn't the classic series like the FX5 with a drain on the bottom? I tell you like the C530 with media and 5 or 6 gallons of water...walk 10 feet (sit down for a break) repeat until I get to the sink. The 2262 I bet is heavy with just media alone? Like I mentioned earlier the 2080 has wheels...I'd buy a 4 wheeler:popcorn:
.

Ok folks the other gentleman was MUCH better with his wording, But again he's asking the question I guess I was unable to get across. It's very hard to ask these questions with something so popular!!!

The only classic with a reverse flush drain is the 2262.
the 2080 is a newer, more techno model. I'm less confident about that, but was tempted.

I like your make it easy attitute. My issue is I always take things way to serious therefore it always makes things so much more difficult then it has to be:chillpill:. If you get the Eheim 2080 it comes with wheels and for a extra$$$$ you could probably buy a motorized cart to tow it with......(JUST JOKING:naughty:)

thanks ...a couple of hardcores kind of got bent when I presented other options to big cans ,but such is life,if one guy on a shoestring budget(like me)...saves enough so that he's got better stock or tank options then I have paid it forward to those on here who did the same for me....

I two have spent way more then I should. In filters alone. You know I think I've spent a couple thousand dollars for a tank filled with $75.00 in Oscars. I just realy like them though unlike most fish I have run across. Who would think it could cost that much to house a fish you can buy for almost nothing. I love African Cichlids but they just don't respond to me in the same way the oscars do. No offense intended to you folks with with big fancy fish. I'm working my way up to it:D. But the Oscar tank stays!!! This may be a repost if so sorry....

I am of the same thinking......seems silly to spend thousand's on filtration or substrate or lighting... but I do it too.....sometimes though it's nice to have options....even though the amex black card crowd sometimes likes to make fun of those who do it on the cheap(the smarter crowd?)

I have a friend here locally who has been breeding cichlids for decades. He has bred more species than just about any hobbyist I know. All his tanks are aquaclears and/or sponge filters. It really boils down to personal preference and big filters don't make you a better fishkeeper.

I was gonna start a whole thread about this expense of "housing", compared to the actual fish that are in there.
Granted, my current tank project is getting extras (I haven't even touched on lighting yet). it's right next to dining table. & don't want to get fish in there, only to decide it looks chintzy.
but still, tank+stand alone were 600.00 used. filters 2x (for failure redundancy) that will be easiest for ME + media= lotsa $$. + driftwood, heaters, etc.
I won't count the background bcuz it's technically only aesthetics... but mandatory 'to me' on this particular large tank, for the Long Term.

:-o

Just got an FX5 (and a 150) given to me brand new and it just needs media. We'll see how I like it, in comparison to my Eheims.
